Prelit Christmas trees: More trouble than they're worth?
I bought a prelit tree last year and had to throw it out this year! Two days before Christmas, over 20 of the bulbs burnt out and I couldn't find enough replacements. Just wondering if anybody else had this problem. I bought a new tree (not prelit) on the 26th, for next year.
Maybe I just got a bad tree. I'm sure it was more than just one bulb, because 20 bulbs turned black. Problem is, it doesn't take the standard tree bulbs and they didn't provide enough replacements. Go figure.

Apparently On the pre-lit trees you have to get a good one, the cheap ones fall apart after one use.

No... Did you try to make sure you weren't missing a bulb or they were all in the sockets good?
My mom has had her 7ft pre-lit tree for 5 years and it's been ok. We bought a smaller artificial tree when we moved because the 7ft tree was too tall, I think this new one isn't a pre-lit, though.
It could have been the tree, though. Bulbs do burn out and nothing does last forever. I don't think you needed to throw it out, could hvae just bought bulbs this year and next year to have extras.
But kudos on going tree shopping on Tuesday. I bought a little 3ft tree for my apartment for a whole $4 last year. Kicked butt.

I bought a prelit Christmas tree LAST YEAR at Kmart (a Martha Stewart one....) and when we put it together and plugged it in this year every bulb was still fine and lit up.
So no, we didn't find any problems with our prelit tree. Sorry hun!

We got ours last year before Christmas, used it then, plugged it in this year and every bulb worked. With 3 kids, 2 cats, and a dog I thought that was pretty impressive.

I've had my fake tree for 5 years, and I love it! It came prelit, and so far, every bulb works. It is much more convenient than having to string lights.

I'll never go back to stringing lights on the tree. I love my pre-lit tree. They make a handheld device that you use to repair your lights without having to replace all of the bulbs. It works great.

I wish i had a prelit tree. do you realize the hassle of trying to get those lights on yourself. i cried for 45 minutes. then the next day i throw them on any way i could. next year i will have prelit.
P.S. did you ever try changing any of the bulbs?

Bought mine this year. There were a few burnt bulbs. Will see next year what it is like.

I think you just had a crappy tree! Give prelit's another chance! You may want to get a prelit that says "if one burns, the others stay lit!", or something like that.

ours is pretty good, we've had it for about 5 years. the only thing wrong with it, is that its a hassle to put together.
