Is this what we call Rule of Law?
-Reference here is to the now world famous notoriously held trial of the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein;
-He is kept under the custody of the occupying American forces, thus by the American Government;
-The so-called trial has been conducted by the Government of Iraq as a part of which Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to death and after the abortive appeal, he is to be hanged within 30 days from that verdict;
-The President of Iraq refuses to sign the final document allowing the execution to be carried out;
-For the execution to be carried out, Saddam Hussein must be handed over to the Iraqi Government by the American Government;
-A Human Rights Organization in America has filed a petition in a court for preventing the American Government from handing over Saddam Hussein to the Iraqi Government!
-Saddam Hussein has willingly offered his life for the sake of national unity!

The court and evidence rules appeared to be made up as the trial went along. This was stupid because Saddam was a brutal dictator, who was clearly guilty of many heinous crimes against his people. He could easily have been given a fair trial or series of trials in the Hague. His crimes would have been thoroughly exposed. This continued exposure of Saddam's atrocities would have added some legitimacy to the US invasion. And Saddam would have rotted in jail, powerless.
Iraqi prosecutors, judges and several of their family members would not have lost their lives. Saddam's execution will be followed by additional violence and death in Iraq. For what? Will this trial and execution have contributed to any sort of justice or rule of law in Iraq? No, it will have contributed only to the chaos, and it will have turned a godless tyrant into a nationalistic martyr.
