For mothers who have become pregnant while breastfeeding.?
I am weaning our 1 1/2 year old and at the same time trying to become prenant. I will be going in to see the dr shortly but I want to know what other mothers experienced in terms of tests (i.e. fertility, hormone etc).
One mother told me that it is by the time my daughter is 2, I will be very fertile. It seemed to take so long to conceive the first time (1 1/2 years). Should it take us longer because I am still lactating?
Thanks for your feedback.
Any thoughts or advice?
I forgot to add that I haven't had a period since I was pregnant back in 2004

Hi there. I am not sure that I am the best person to answer your question. I do fit the criteria tho as I did get pregnant with my third child while I was still nursing her one year old brother. Breastfeeding did not seem to interfer with my fertility at all. I was using the sponge thingy....can't really remember the name of it, but managed to get pregnant in spite of it.
I continued to nurse my little boy until I was about 5 months pregnant and then the thought of nursing a newborn AND a toddler dawned on me! I think that every newborn deserves to be the only one nursing when the are tiny like that so I did wean my son. It was very easy and he did not seem to mind. He would ask to nurse once in awhile and I would let him, but all in all he gave it up pretty easily.
Good luck and congratulations on nursing your precious baby for so long. You have really given your little girl a fantastic start in life. She is lucky to have such a great mother. Good luck on getting pregnant again!
Blessings,
Lady T~

You can absolutely get pregnant while you're nursing and your fertility is not based on how long it's been since your previous birth. Go for it.
