Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner that my hair can't kill?

i have very long hair and shed everywhere. it's long enough that one hair looks like a lot. my hair gets wrapped up in the brushes and that is that. the motor either burns up or the brushes go soft......yes i cut it out after each use, but nothing works!

Update:

yes, i've even killed shop vacs!

Update 2:

here's the drill...the only way to pick up hair without killing the vac is to go over the rugs with a stiff broom first to pick up my hair. then vacuum as usual. well, i had a heart problem a few years ago and i just plain can't manage the routine anymore. am looking for an easier way. so far i'm not seeing it here.

I know exactly how you feel! I have extremely long, thick hair and it gets everywhere. I shed constantly, it's insane.

I've destroyed many a vacuum as well (although I never destroyed a shopvac - wow) until I bought the Dyson Animal. I've only owned it a little while, but it is amazing. It vacuums up all my hair no problem, AND I can see the amount of hair it vacuums up in the canister (which is a lot!) Anyway, I picked it because it was specifically designed for hair.

I bought mine from PowerVacs bec. it had the best price. Call me nerdy, but I have been raving about this purchase to anyone and everyone!

The secret to a shop vac, i.e. wet and dry vac, is the strength of the motor. The little ones just are not powerful enough to pick up as much as you need to pick up. I'm basing that on the fact that it didn't work for you. A proper shop vac will cost in the $100-$150 USD range. A $50 one won't do very much.

A huge amount of hair should not burn out a good shop vac. Something else had to be wrong. Perhaps it was a low quality one or perhaps you didn't ever change the filter?

A Dyson is supposed to not clog inside, but it doesn't address the issue of the rollers that much.

Perhaps you can take the roller out every few times and make sure all the hair is out of it. The weak point is the bearings at the mounting point. You can easily see the working part of the roller, but you don't see the part that handles all the stress, the bearings.

The Rainbow Cleaning System is amazing and it's price is too -- the Oreck really owns up to its name too - I have long hair, lose a lot of it, have 6 cats that like to explode hair everywhere and have these 2 vacs myself. But if you need to go less expensive than one of these get a good handheld and keep it handy for quick pick ups so your vacuum takes less of a beating.

The dyson claims to be good for hair but you have to make sure you clean it out. I can't believe you burned out a shop vac. Didn't you clean off the filter after several uses?

Use a shop vac. before you use your regular vacuum.

That what we have to do, there are 6 of in this house, all of us have long hair & we were killing our vacuumes also.

    Hope this helps.

You should go over the floor with the Hose on

    the Vacuum cleaner first.

I have a Kirby. Great suction, and a nice long

    hose for easy standing use.

There's a vacuum called Dyson that was made especially for gathering pet hair, so I'm guessing it'll work on your hair as well. Check it out at http://www.dyson.com/
