My freind is driving with out car insurance. Is this ok?

A freind of mine, 23yrs old, has just bought a $1000 car to get herself around from work and school. She lives alone with her sister, who is 25 and grandmother and has told me that she needs this car badly but can not afford to pay car insurance. I've been told that she can go to jail and loose her lisence. What can be done to help her out? She lives in florida USA.

Florida is a No-Fault State. PIP coverage is no-fault insurance that pays 80% of your medical bills and 60% of your lost wages, no matter who is at fault for the accident. The most that can be paid under PIP for medical bills and/or wages is $10,000.00.

Florida requires you to carry insurance, with the following minimum coverage:

    Required Minimum Bodily Injury Coverage

$10,000 per person injured in any one accident and $20,000 for all persons injured in any one accident

    Required Minimum Property Damage Coverage

$10,000 for injury to or destruction of property of others in any one accident

If your friend is stopped they will ask to see her license (giving her permission to drive), registration (showing the car she is driving has a good tag and belongs to her), and insurance. If she is not able to provide an insurance card valid in the state, she will be ticketed at the minimum, and perhaps have her vehicle towed and impounded, with a hold placed on it for valid insurance coverage before release.

Part of driving is the needed things to drive, which includes insurance. tell her to park the car until she can afford to do the right thing, or pay the consequences.

If she were to have an accident, she would be sued and lose what little she now has. It just isn't worth the risk she is taking.

No, it is not OK. There are substantial fines for driving without insurance and the car can be impounded. Should she have an accident she will be personally liable and will lose her license until the damages are paid. If it's a serious accident, she could be without a license for decades.

She can't afford to be without insurance.

Besides tickets, possible jail and loss of license, she could additionally be required to carry expensive Sr-22 insurance and worse, be sued for all she, or her family is worth if she is in an accident.

Tell her to walk, ride the bus or take a cab.

If she can't afford insurance, she surely won't be able to afford the repercussions.

As someone who got hit by a driver who had no automobile insurance, I would say the answer is no. It is not ok to drive without insurance.

It is not O.K. You are risking everyones, on the road, including your self. If you have insurance, the Insurance Company takes care of liabilities, in case of accidents. Without insurance, the total liability will fall on you.

quite dangerous i think. ask your friend how will he be able to pay for that 1/4 million car if his breaks go, or if he has considered a small accident that rides his car off. Your friend needs to be understanding the consequences of any accidents. QUITE DANGEROUS.
