do i have an increased chance of twins?

my mums half sister (different dads, same mum) had dizygotic twins and my dads mum is a dizygotic twin so twins are in my familiy, however i was wondering if it might increase my chances of having twins.

i know having twins is down to the mother, but must it always run in the maternal line? ie could my chances of having twins be increased because my paternal grandmother is a twin or would it need to be my mum or her mum or her mum etc that is a twin for it to have any effect on me?

also if my mums sister had twins then does that mean that twins might run in my maternal ancestry? i dont know of any twins earlier in this part of my family and i have traced it back several generations. could my aunties twins have been spontaneous? i didnt think this happened so much with dizygotics.

just wondering as we are ttc and would be chuffed to bits with twins!

Update:

could i have inherited the hyperovulation gene from my dads mum or would it have to have come down my mums line?

I had twins but no one in maternal home ever had one, apart from my cousin, from my paternal home.

Ive heard that with same twins its basically success with the eggs splitting. yet with fraternal (non-indentica) twins then there's a genetic hyperlink because the mummy releases 2 ova that can then be fertisied through 2 diffferent sperms. So if the twins are on you mums aspect there is an threat you'll have twins too. *edit* in case you employ fertility drugs or IVF there is an advance interior the prospect of twins also.

The genetic component in twinning is hyper-ovulation. If you inherited that predisposition to ovulate more then once per cycle then you have a good chance of conceiving twins otherwise you have the same chance as anyone else. Best of luck.

Having twins is usually genetic yes. Normally you will see it skip generations. However, your at the highest risk if your husband is also genetically in line for having twins as well.

Twins usually happen every third generation if it runs in your family. Yes, it's possible you have a higher chance of twins.

To the person who said it skips a generation, not necessarily. My grandma (mom's mom) had twins (my aunt and uncle) and so did my mom (my brother and me).

it skips a generation. if your nan was a twin, your mum wont be, but you will, your kid wont be but their kid will be and so on...
