Recommended service appointment for my vehicle but nowhere near the milage the service is recommended for?
I've got an '05 Honda Element and the milage is at 23,500km. The dealership sent a letter saying that according to their records, the vehicle has 32,000km and therefore requires the "type C" service (i.e. $200 service).
I bought the extended warranty and don't want to risk making the warrantly null and void by missing service appointments.
I called the dealership and explained the low milage on my vehicle and my driving habits but they insisted I bring the vehicle in and have the "type C" service done on it anyway because the service schedule is not only a function of milage but time as well.
So I did (they're working on my car as we speak and I'm getting ready to charge $200 on my card) but I'm kinda annoyed thinking they're ripping me off. Thoughts?

I see no reason for you to have had the service at the lower mileage. You can also get regular service at ANY garage and it will NOT void your warranty. They were trying to make a buck on you by insisting that it be done now. be sure to keep all receipts for ANY regular repairs and maintenance visits to back up your warranty. Things like oil change, lube, rotate tires, check brakes, etc. preventative maintenance is the best, but if you listen to them you would need something every month and no fool would believe that. it is recommended for most cars to have the oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months, but if you had the oil changed and only put 500 miles on it, it is NOT dirty from sitting and will NOT affect anything. (Example). Get your work done elsewhere in future and it will probably be cheaper too.

It is true, there is both a time and mileage limit that you should get your car checked out at. In the US we say every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. Whichever comes first.

hard to say...read the extended warrenty...It may say u have to do the time thing or the millage whichever comes first..... bummer...
