Is it possible to be against the war but support the troops?

Of course you can. I've been against the war from day one, but I have always supported the troops. I come from a military family and I, too, am a government employee. They're just regular people like us trying to do a job. Some of them support the war, some do not - but they are ALL dedicated professionals putting their lives in danger.

To say we can't question the war strategy of our political representatives without hurting our military is downright dishonest. In a democracy it is not only our right - but our duty - to speak our minds. Our troops fight to protect our democracy. If we don't exercise our rights, then we do them the greatest disservice.

Supporting the troops like giving them food and stuff is great but supporting the troops by war is not possible.

i think you are right....personally i think the war was a necessary evil...no one wants war and i think its awful that those that support this war are called war mongers...its called standing up to a bully or tyrant. saddam was funding and supporting bin laden and there are countless public records to support this and bin laden attacked us without provocation in a time of peace and killed many innocent ppl, not just on 9/11 but on many occasions. saddam was under sanctions and orders from the u.n. and the global community to stop making wmd's he would say he's stop but continue on, he ignored this for decades. it was time to hold him accountable and the only nation who has the courage and power to do that is the u.s. remember though it wasn't bush who instigated this war, democrats and republicans alike voted for it. the u.n. sanctioned it and all based on the same intel that bush had...the problem was when things didn't go as planned they ran for the hills pointing the finger of blame at bush and are letting him take the rap for it. cowardly if you ask me.

well..i think you can be against war but stil have a patriotic feeling,materialised in support for those out on the battle field.As for me,I am totally opposed to any kind of conflict(especially war),but still admire those who have the courage to fight for a cause that they believe in.Altough I believe that fighting brings no good and fighting for peace is something really absurd,I consider that going to war under the flag of your country is a brave and heroic thing and should be admired by all.Just think where we would be if we had nobody to fight for the country during the first or second World War.

Just because some people (like myself) aren't happy about the war, the troops are doing their job, and they deserve our respect for that alone. My nephew is a Marine in Iraq. How could I not be supportive of him?

Absolutely! As a veteran I can tell you that I support our troops but am firmly against this war and certainly against sending in a minute number of additional troops. We are sending 20,000 more soldiers into the meat grinder with no really clear or achievable goal in mind. I would consider it not being supportive of our troops to keep feeding them into this morass. How many have to die before we acknowledge that we are just biding time so that someone else can clean up the mess.

To truly be against the war, you truly support the troops and want to bring them home safe to their loved ones.

You are wrong complately. Being against the war gives moral support to our enemies and cause the troops to be discouraged. This fight is either/or.

No, you can't do both.

How can you be supporting the troops if you don't believe their mission is just? All a Soldier, Marine, Airman, Sailor, ... ever asks from the people of America is a little appreciation. You can't call what they're doing illegal and make them feel appreciated at the same time.

You either support them, or you don't.

Most of the troops recognize this as hypocrisy.

You cannot 'support' me when you oppose what I am doing.
