The high gas prices in the summer were supposed to be Bush catering to his cronies.?

Then, right before the elections, the gas prices went down. This was supposed to be Bush lowering the prices to influence the elections. I saw many posts saying as soon as the elections were over, the prices would shoot back up. It's the middle of January and gas in my area is now under $2.00 a gallon in some places and steadily dropping. How does that fit in with your conspiracy theories?

Update:

T S: Sure I'd like to pay less for everything, but if you look at the rise in the cost of gasoline over the last 30-40 years and compare it to the rising cost of ALL other goods and services it would be a bargain at $5 a gallon. Look at the rising cost of college education. How many are blaming the Liberal deans and professors for conspiring against the minorities to limit their education?

Update 2:

Dizz: I DID listen carefully and I never claimed an "intelligent person" made these claims. I merely stated that I saw numerous posts making these claims. I'll let you be the judge on their intelligence.

It doesn't have to, the election is over. That lie doesn't have to fit anymore.

I don't think you listened very carefully. No intelligent person would claim George Bush manipulated the price but many people thought the oil companies may have manipulated the price to keep control of congress in Republican hands. Why would oil companies want this? Because the Republicans are all for expanding drilling rights into environmentally sensitive areas and for continuing government subsidies (corporate welfare) to big oil.

The wild card in the price of oil is the unusually warm winter most of the country is experiencing. So maybe global warming is causing a glut of home heating oil.

Your mistake is listening to that nonsense at all.

No one controls oil prices. Many factors go into the price of oil: supply and demand is the main one. Last year, the strikes and explosions in Nigeria disrupted supply; oil is controled by an egomaniac in Venezuela and a lunatic in Iran; prices are higher in the summer until September and then fall in autumn. Also India and China's economic changes have increased demand for oil, etc.

Ignore conspiracies. They exist as a cheap substitute for real information.

I think that we give too much credit to George Bush (or any president) on his ability to alter the world's economy and world affairs in general. He's still only one guy...fairly powerful in certain areas...yes...but able to single-handedly control the world...no.

No person has the magical powers to single-handedly satisfy the whims of 300,000,000 Americans, never mind the 7 billion people on the planet.

The people who insist that GWB is the "dumbest and worst president ever" are the same ones who declare that he can manipulate every situation to serve his personal ambitions...it just doesn't make logical sense.

anyone that thinks a president controls the price of gas should educate themselves. that goes for a lot of other things that people give credit for or blame on a president
