I have a Kirby.
I am sick of it.
Too heavy and will not break.
I want a new vacuum cleaner too. .
I end up wrestling with it every time I vacuum, sometimes dropping the wicked thing on my foot.
My husband thinks I am crazy for swearing at it.
Will watch this section for answers.
Thanks for asking this question.

If you want a relativley inexpensive vacuum, get a Eureka BOSS. It is #3 in Consumer Reports and costs about $140. I bought one for myself and it is great. Don’t be fooled by Orek or Rainbow or any of the brands that claim you need to spend thousands for a new vacumm. Not so.
Number 1 and 2 were Kenmores, but they were in the $300-400 range.
Good luck.

The kind I enjoy the most is the Dirt Devil enVision. It has a great sucking power for those really dirty carpets. It's pretty cheap as far as vacuum's go. It usually runs $70.00, available in most stores like Wal*Mart, Kmart, and others. It also has a bunch of attachments to clean furniture and other things besides carpet. Hope this helps.

You need a Dyson. It is the absolute best vacuum I have ever had. Worth every penny! It is bagless, but unlike other bagless vacuums, when you empty it there is no filter full of hair and dust. The hose part is as powerful as a shop vac.

Get a sturdy one but the top of line is usually way over the hill price wise. Kirby and Rainbow are not worth the price. I used to rebuild Hoovers and they're pretty much identical internally. Don't get the cheapies, and ask if you can try one out at home for a couple days. There's always a try it out on a credit card and return it if they won't let you test it.

You get what you pay for... a cheap $39 vacuum stick won't pick up much of anything. Avoid "bagless" models, as it means you will have to clean out a disgusting dirt compartment. Buy from a local retailer who will back up your purchase with service.

Depending on how much you want to spend, an Electroclux Vaccum is the best. It's a little expensive, but they last for years. They really suck the stuff out of the carpet.
