Zyrtec question?
I developed an immunity to my old allergy medicine, allegra, so had to switch. My doctor perscribed zyrtec. I have been taking it for about a week. I have been late to work every day this week due to my inability to wake up. My doctor initially told me to take it before bed, so I've been moving the time of dosage back further and further to try and counteract the drowsiness. No luck. I've also been somewhat tempermental since I started taking it... like I punched the button to the elevator I was so pissed off this morning about being late again. I'm groggy all day and lose my train of thought half way through doing something. Luckily my boss has bad allergies too and understands I'm adjusting to a new medicine.
I'm taking 10mg once a day. I'm 5'4'', slightly built and weigh 110. Could the dosage be too high for my metabolic rate? Has anyone else experienced the mood swings after taking this? I've been totally out of character since I started taking this.

My fiance had mood swings when he started taking Zyrtec. He was very irritable for a couple of weeks until he got used it it. But after he got thru that the medicine really works well for him. Good luck!

Similar problem. I asked my doctor and had to be pre-approved to get my health coverage to pay for it, but I use the 12 hour Zyrtec and take it in the morning when I wake up. I wanted to be in more control of my allergies, in doing this, I don't have to take it all the time, and sometimes for short term, I will just take a benedryl to relieve the immediate symptom (like if I'm going to someones house that has indoor cats because my allergy is not that serious).
Ask your doctor about getting the 12 hour Zyrtec instead of the 24 hour and good luck.

I would say give your body a few more days to get used to it and see if the side effects subside. I took Zyrtec twice a day (for mastocytosis) for over a year and the only side effect I still had issues with was the drowsiness.
If you're still having issues with side effects after being on it for 10 days to two weeks, I'd call your doctor. Some people just react differently to medication... and you may need to switch to a different brand.

I noticed this with both of my kids (8 yr 45lb) and (11yr 68 lb) and found if I give it to them at noon they are not as groggy in the mornings. It took them about 2 weeks to get adjusted to it so give it a little more time.
