A poor man is a man who has no love,respect, nor friendship. A man whom even a dog would not go to.No matter his wealth, great or small if he can not even gain the love of a dog then he is poor.

A rich man is one who has the respect of his peers the love of his family and friends, the loyalty of even a flea bitten mutt. This is a rich man. No matter his position in the social world,no matter the size of his bank account.

A man who has the capacity to love as God has taught is a man who would gain such a wealth of family friends and peers, so much so that a stray from the back alley would come to him for a simple pet from his hands.

This is a great question and all the good answers above, put together, still fall short of doing full justice to this question. Let me add my bit for what it may be worth.

I believe that neither earning tons of money nor spending it decides richness even financially..... one who can afford enough leisure time to do exactly what he likes the most, is the really rich guy.

In other words, it is time that is our real wealth. Taking this logic forward, I would say that one can be wealthy only by utilising available time properly..... in the context of any individual, 'properly' means in such a way that gives him the maximum happiness.

That then leads us to the simplest but the most accurate definition which really encompasses all the above ideas and views in one word, that is 'happiness' ..... thus, rich is he who is happy most of the times and poor is he who can not be happy most of the times. (I strongly believe that a human being can not be happy all the time, nor can be unhappy all the time!!)

The richness or poverty is not counted by your finances. I know some of the richest people in the world who can hardly make their ends meet in their lives. But they would never trade or compromise the richness of their souls for any material values.

Richness is counted by the amount, but amount of what? Amount of your energy. not the physical energy, but the energy of love. Often times, if a soul has a great amount of love energy, it is given material wealth on the visible level. For example, a person is born into a rich family or has a mad success. So, the reservoir of your love energy often defines the kind of lifestyle you have. Your outside situation (the one that you can see) reflects what is going inside your soul (whatever you cannot see with your eyes).

The soul is put exactly in the kind of setting that would benefit its growth and help expand the love reservoir. Where did we get our present reservoir from? From our past lifetimes. And the only reason we came to this world is to learn the lessons that we did not learn before and gather the wealth for our soul. Not to chase money. Money comes as a side effect. But if we get stuck to the material wealth, it starts depleting our hard earned love reservoir and we have to gain it all back again through hardships, sufferings, and so on.

So, richness is determined based on your reservoir of the Godly or Love energy and how much of that energy you can give to people without expecting anything in return.

A poor man is one who feels poor at heart and a rich one feels rich from inside. It's all in the attitude man!!

a rich man is poorer by way of not enjoying sound sleep on account of worries about someone taking away his wealth, having a full dinning table loaded with all the eats but not being able to eat due to illnesses. having children who because of the abundant riches, are lacking in character building material in spite of his best efforts. they think that their papa's money can buy them anything, even good education without studies,

a poor man may be lacking in all the material comforts but he is rich in what ever the rich man lacks.

unfortunately, in to days world a rich man is the one who has pots of money and others are all poor.

The poor man is the one who always wanting more than he has. The rich man is the one who is content with what he has.

A poor man may have no riches, yet his peace is priceless.

Being rich or being poor is not strictly based on financial terms. Your experience, intelligence, your professional achievements let us say as a lawyer or engineer for instance could make be recognized as being rich.However, it should be emphasized that

money affords comfort not a long lasting happiness observed in those rich not because of money.

Before I clicked on your question and read the complete one my first thought was Donald Trump. He might be rich financially but he is poor in personality. I'd rather know a poor nice guy than a rich *******.

LOVE!! is what makes a man rich or poor. The more you give.. the double its returns. As far as money... time will tell when its yours or gone!!
