MUSLIMS: If Muhammad is the last prophet then what is the Mahdi?

I am really confused here. I am told that Muslims believe that Muhammad was the one true and last prophet - BUT - he mentioned a Mahdi who will be like him, and I assume that to mean he will be a Muslim Prophet. This is most confusing.

Is Muhammad the last prophet or not? If he is - what is this Mahdi dude (besides being Muhammad's nephew) what is his position? teacher? law giver? what? He's not a prophet?

He will simply be a leader of the Muslims the Imam or Caliph. He look like the Prophet (pbuh). But he will not be a Prophet/ Messenger, he will not bring a new message or warning like Prophets do.

Imam Mahdi is not a Prophet - as you correctly point out the Prophet Muhammed is God's last prophet - he will be a rightly guided leader of the Muslim comunity - he wont bring any new law or teaching

BTW Muslims dont believe that Muhammed (pbuh) was the one true prophet - there are 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran such as Adam , Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus (pbut) etc who Muslim must also believe in in order to be Muslims

The existence of the Mahdi in Islam is not certain, because the reference to him have not been conclusively verified. However, for those who believe that he exists or will arrive towards the end of time, he will simply be a leader of the muslims, and he will help in the defeat of the Dajjal (sort of an anti christ). He will not bring any new revelation, nor will he claim to be a prophet.

As I continue to search knowledge, I feel Mohammad had a false dream...........and now they are waiting for Mahdi. To me much of what Mahdi will do parallels the anti-Christ.

But as far as "End Times"..........no one knows when and I think it's sad that so many are focused on this "rapture" thing when all should just be walking in the way of the Lord and following his commandments.

Enjoy life that God gave you and walk in his ways.

    Peace be with you.

    The Apocalypse Of Saint John

    Chapter 22

16 I Jesus have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star. 17 And the spirit and the bride say: Come. And he that heareth, let him say: Come. And he that thirsteth, let him come: and he that will, let him take the water of life, freely. 18 For I testify to every one that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book: If any man shall add to these things, God shall add unto him the plagues written in this book. 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from these things that are written in this book. 20 He that giveth testimony of these things, saith, Surely I come quickly: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

In Islamic eschatology the Mahdi (مهدي translit: Mahdī, also Mehdi; "Guided One") is the prophesied redeemer of Islam. The advent of Mahdi is a universally accepted concept in Islam, though there are basic differences among different sects of Muslims about the timing and nature of his advent and guidance. Muslims believe that the Mahdi will change the world into a perfect and just Islamic society alongside the Prophet Jesus before Yaum al-Qiyamah (literally "Day of the Resurrection" or "Day of the Standing"). The "hdi" of "Mahdi" refers to the Arabic root "هدی" which means "to guide".

The exact nature of the Mahdi differs according to Sunni and Shi'a Muslims. For a more in-depth Shi'a account of the Mahdi, see Muhammad al-Mahdi.

Mahdi can mean one of two things.

1 - The person Muhammed al-Mahdi, who was the twelfth Imam.

2 - A Mahdi, a person who is the Ultimate Savior of Mankind.

The status of prophets in Islam is very clear:

they are sent by God and are sent to bring new rules into the Religion.

for example, there were no explicit teachings forbidding the usage of alcohol in Jesus's or Moses's time.

But the Quran explicitly states that alcohol consumption is against Gods wishes.

Prophet Muhammad is seen as the seal of the prophets as he has brought the message of the Quran that has all the details necessary to live a happy proper life on earth and consequently win Gods pleasure.

Every now and then, God has also sent messengers, those who do not have the responsibility to bring new rules but are sent to reaffirm the previous teachings.

Mahdi is one of them. At a time when islamic teachings have weakened and at a time when the world is in need of a leader, he will come forth and bring justice that is much needed to the world.

He is therefore not a prophet but a messenger of God.

As it is, saints and those who are in constant servitute may also be classified as messengers of God. But they are not prophets.

The Mahdi will not be "like him". He will be from his descendants.

He will just be a leader of Muslims, who will work with Jesus(pbuh) to establish peace in the world

A prophet is someone who foresees something, and receives inspirations from God. A messenger receives a message from God.

Muhammad(pbuh) was both, and the Mahdi will be neither.

The Mahdi is not a prophet, but more of an Imam. We believe he will be, I guess you could say, the right-hand man of Jesus (saws) when he returns before the Day of Judgement. Here's a little more info that might help you understand:

    Good luck!

The Mahdi is a 'caliph' who were a group of leaders of the muslims sort of like tribal cheifs. They were not prophets but tried to follow in his footsteps and do like he did.

Just as many are stuck in the past, so many muslims are stuck in the past. But the spirit must evolve. Islam teaches there will be a 12th Imam. Just as Christianty teaches

there will be Two Witnesses who will prophesy in the end, as well as John reincarnated.

However, I must warn that The Adversary may send "imposters" to the people of Islam, just as he will to the people of the Christ. If any leader teaches anything less than that we are ALL the Children of the Most High. He is a LIAR!
