Why can't we find a way to destroy an asteroid before it potentially impacts the earth?
It seem's most of the suggestions have been to explode it, which can break into many pieces. Then we will have many pieces falling to earth, rather than a large rock. It doesn't save the earth. Isn't there a way they can create a laser which can break down the atoms and cause the asteroid to become dust particles, rather than rock fragments?

The most scientific solution to this potential problem has been developed by NASA and other administrations from other nations. The solution would be to discover this hazard in time to launch a spacecraft of sorts that could get to the asteroid and then sway it off of it's course to Earth by using it's gravitational pull. All objects have a gravitational pull on one another and this plan works under that precept.

We probably could do so if it were to become an issue, but considering that the last one to hit was 50 million years ago, and much life survived, it would clearly be a waste of money to start fussing with it until some evidence suggested that it were necessary.
