Why are Conservatives so afraid to believe in Global Warming?

Is it because the guy who has made it so well-known to the public a Democrat? Why, in the face of overwhelming evidence, are they so reluctant to face the truth?

Update:

River - you're right, I shouldn't generalise. I should've said "most conservatives".

Update 2:

wmcritter - when were CO2 levels higher than they are now? Not for the last 800,000 years :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/5314592....

Here's quote from one of the scientists who analysed the Antarctic ice-core going back 800,000 years :

"Ice cores reveal the Earth's natural climate rhythm over the last 800,000 years. When carbon dioxide changed there was always an accompanying climate change. Over the last 200 years human activity has increased carbon dioxide to well outside the natural range," explained Dr Wolff.

The "scary thing", he added, was the rate of change now occurring in CO2 concentrations. In the core, the fastest increase seen was of the order of 30 parts per million (ppm) by volume over a period of roughly 1,000 years.

"The last 30 ppm of increase has occurred in just 17 years. We really are in the situation where we don't have an analogue in our records," he said. "

yep. if it was a republican they would be all for it. just look at how they try to disprove that it's happening.

I am a Conservative. As far as global warming is concerned I do believe in it. However I and many others don't believe that it is due to all the same factors or the extreme factors as Al Gore and the movie portray. The movie says if the caps melt the oceans will rise 22 feet this is the most extreme point of view. Other scientists believe it would be 2 feet. One other point for instance is the sun is actually burning hotter how do we fix that? We have been thawing since the ice age. If people were really concerned about the environment they would be talking with China and India as well as so many other countries who are pouring every sort of unregulated pollutant into the environment. Here they are just preaching to the choir and accepting awards. My position is do whatever a country can do to take the bad goop out of the air water and food as much as is possible without wrecking their economy. People have to be able to live.

Please don't lump all conservatives together and I won't lump all democrats together. We need to work together to solve problems and that starts at the grassroots level not the government level. Most of them a blinded by money and power. It is up to us to make a difference.

Sorry, Gore wasn't the first chicken little to go around screaming that the sky is falling. In fact going back a few decades sheep like you were certain we were going into another ice age.. and championed the "overwhelming evidence" to prove it.

So, why are you so relectant to think for yourself? Why do you refuse to ask questions like:

    * What caused the global warming that ended the last ice age?

    * What was the cause of the Medieval warm period and "little ice age" that followed?

These events happened a relatively short time ago.. and the answer you'll get from the "experts" who supply your "overwhelming evdience" is "WE DON'T KNOW"

They were wrong about the coming ice age.. and they used the same process to determine our coming global warming doom. Let them get a better track record and answer a few basic questions before we join in the "sky is falling" panic.

Pull your head out! There is no debate over whether the earth is getting hotter... aka Global Warming. Where the debate comes into play is over WHAT is causing this warming. The left says it's the people... BAD, BAD people. The right says it's NOT OUR FAULT! The truth lies somewhere in the middle, and there is very little proof one way or another.

The USA is obviously the greatest offender, because we are the USA and everyone dislikes us for our success... even though we are one of he best countries around when it comes to pollution control. Look at Brazil, look at China. Those are back woods countries that still have MAJOR pollution issues. Of course, there are plenty of places that we can still improve... such as putting Los Angeles under water.

Gore did not make it well known to the public, it has been talked about for 30 years.

There is NO overwhelming evidence to support man-made Global Warming. The CO2 correlation is proven wrong by historical records. There have been times in history where the CO2 content in the atmosphere was much higher than it is now, and global temperatures were colder.

Has the Earth warmed? Yes, we are no longer in an ice age, DUH! Are humans to blame? There is no evidence to support that yet.

Why don't you do a little research to find out the TRUTH before you go spouting off about things you obviously have no clue about.

One of the ways you can tell you have solid science is to have a test to show your theory is wrong. What is the test and result that would make you believe Global warming isn't happening?

If the temperature fluctuation was less then 1 degree for the past 15 years? If CO2 increased but the temperature didn't over 10 years? What would it be drea376?

If you can't give us this you aren't using science.

I hear this argument that conservatives care more about money then anything else over and over. Sorry folks but money is food, shelter, medical care, etc...If liberals don't care about money have the government give us all back our money. Or is it that all you care about is money?

Source(s): When has CO2 been higher? Please read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide#Variat... Quote: "it appears that much of the last 550 million years has experienced carbon dioxide concentrations significantly higher than the present day." What? This can't be right Al Gore said so! Quote: "NOAA research estimates that 97% of atmospheric CO2 created each year is from natural sources and approximately 3% is from human activities." Guess there is no consensus's in the scientific community.

Not all. but many who don't really have the acumen to realize that the story they've been sold is the one promulgated by those who are heavily invested in fossil fuels.

Global warming aside, why can't people see that reduction of the use of fossil fuels has health and financial benefits for everyone?

Maybe I should put that up as a question.

The "info" of international warming are greater like comments. it extremely is an extremely extensive-unfold opinion, yet no longer without it extremely is medical detractors. international warming isn't as shrink and dried because of fact the media and others might have us have self assurance. Google it! in fact, the medical community is greater divided than reported. international warming is greater politically extensive-unfold than scientifically. it extremely is getting used to push a jealous international coverage upon US voters. i'm shocked that greater government officers are no longer able to think of for themselves. Our planet has warmed and cooled many circumstances over many hundreds of years. Now ought to we argue approximately human beings inflicting a number of it? I agree we ought to discover the right thank you to diminish our result on earth, yet no longer on the cost persons freedoms and liberties. those themes can co-exist collectively.

    I do believe in it.

But, I have a hard time listening to someone who preaches on it, yet flies around in an inefficient private jet and does not use green energy in his home, and shows up to an awards gala in a gas guzzling limo.

As for the actual issue, I'm in favor of alternative fuels. But, the environment is second in importance. Primary for me is not having to buy oil from people who hate us.

Liberals want to pretend this issue is about science, but it's about global government. Global warming is a political issue invented by liberals to rally governments together.

I'm a conservative and I'm not saying I disagree or believe. I think more evidence is needed. I don't know about you, but I live in Kansas and we have had horrible weather here (snow and ice). Read a newspaper.
