How can I sing with an attitude?
I have to sing part of the song "Kansas City" in my school musical. People keep telling me that I need to sing it with more of an attitude and more sexy. I've asked so many people how to do this, but so far, no help. I'm not exactly attractive so it's hard for me to flaunt nothing. Also the sound of my voice needs more attitude, but I don't know how to put it in. Are there any real people or fictional characters that I could use as inspirations or models for this role?

You have to really think about the lyrics and feel the lyrics. Why are you going to Kansas City, make up some interesting story for yourself and beleive that story when you sing it.

You say you're not attractive. That's probably the "attitude" you're exhibiting now.
"It's so hard for me to flaunt nothing..." Certainly there's some feature you consider at least mildly attractive. Play that feature up and show it off. Pretend! It's acting, girl!
There might be some inspiration in the movie "Chicago."
Have fun with it, growl, snarl, go all out!
Break one of those sexy legs!

It can be a "strutting" kind of thing. Like John Travolta in "Grease" only slower. I don't think the whole song has to have the whole ''Sexy" " Strutting" thing. Just at certain parts, like when you say< "and I'm gonna get me one!''. Props always help, like a fedora (hat) tilted to one side . Maybe a "watch chain" on a belt loop you could spin around as you slink your self slowly across the stage. If you wear a vest or suspenders you could always stick your thumbs in them at "key" times. Check out "All That Jazz" (its a Fosse movie w/ George Schneider I believe. Good luck! Have you ever heard of the expression, " Just wing it Kid!"?

Sexiness has little to do with being attractive. Look at Mick Jagger. You could etch a diamond on his face. But he's got confidence in the way he presents himself in front of others that makes him attractive, even at 5,000 years old.

Think of someone you think is sexy, and with attitude, pretend you're singing to yourself with no one around, it could be nerves, just for that moment, pretend no ones there and just sing.

Sing like you would talk. Kind of in that tone of voice.
