general piercing question?
ive had my ears pierced since birth, it was done at the hospital. i got other piercings later in life (other holes in my ears, eyebrow, nose, nipple) and have not been able to keep them. the only piercing that i have kept is my tongue. my eyebrow ring ripped out of my eyebrow, i was told my skin rejected it. my nosering had to be take out because it was gold and im allergic to gold. my nipple piercing never healed properly, even after a year it still hurt. my ear piercings did not last because a friend did it for me at her house with a needle, and the other was done at a piercing pagoda when i was 13 with gold earrings.
i really want a monroe piercing, but i'm afraid i'm going to end up having to take out it. am i just allergic to things piercing me? i can handle tattoos, no problem, but when it comes to a piercing, im pretty screwed.
are there hypoallergenic studs i can use?
***spare me any anti facial piercing comments. im looking for a REAL answer.
thank you thank you!

I think that you just have sensitive skin and the jewelry that you've been pierced with probably caused the problem in a few cases. As far as the nipple piercing goes I don't think it was the jewelry alone, I think you were pierced incorrectly (nipple piercings are easy to pierce incorrectly). Eyebrow piercings, regardless of material used and who they are in are prone to rejection, so it may or may not have been the jewelry's fault that you couldn't keep it.
I think that if you got a Monroe piercing with a high quality stainless steel or titanium labret stud you shouldn't have problems. Both metals are used commonly by piercers because few people have reactions to them and they aren't made with cheap and impure metals. I'm not the biggest fan of gold for new, unhealed piercings so I try to keep people from using it just because it seems to be hit or miss.
Another option you could try is use bioplast or quartz retainers when you get the piercing done. Both materials can be autoclaved and again, don't contain impure materials (one being material used for implants and surgery, the other being a heat treated glass)
If you are still worried about what will cause problems, perhaps you should get some allergy testing done so you know what to avoid. If you don't do that, just go to a skilled, intelligent piercer and be sure they understand your situation. They should be able to work with you and find something that will work, trust me. Good luck

Here is what I suggest...
Your body obviously is rejecting many piercings because of basically skin irritations and allergic reactions, and your skin growing out like your eyebrow did. The monroe piercing is a very risky piercing especially in your situation where your body is rejecting piercings.
I know a girl who got hers done, her body was rejecting it and it got so swollen and bad over-night, that she had to go to the hospital to get it fixed just because her body was rejecting the piercing. Note: she has her ears and nose pierced and has never had any other problems EXCEPT for the monroe.
If she had that problem with the monroe I am sure you would even have more of a problem. The monroe hits a lot of saliva build-up and germs in your mouth. So it is difficult to keep a piercing like the monroe.
Also there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic studs lol SORRY. The most you can do is try to get those piercings done again, but definitely do it with an expensive sterling silver and it might stay in better. Get a good cleaning solution and clean it 2-3 times a day.

It does sound like you have a problem with your skin, and I would think twice before having anything else pierced. It's sort of a pain to go through the pain and have everything close or get infected.
Ok, you are allergic to 14 carat gold, that is not all that unusual. I would suggest trying to use 22 KT gold, which is the purest gold that you can get. Not many jewelers use it as it is very hard to create jewelry with, and anyting you get is going to cost you.
You do have other choices. There are three things that are totally hyoallergenic. You can use surgical steel, titanium or niobium. Those three metals do not have any effect on your body chemistry.
If I were you I would start easily with maybe getting another hole in your ear using something made from one of these metals and see where you go from there. If that works, then slowly work on the rest of your body. You don't really want to keep tearing parts of your body. Painful and could get a lot of infections.
But as you do have a problem, please do all your piercings at good clean places that are licensed. And don't let anyone near you with a gun for piercing. Just be careful.

It sounds like you have a metal allergy, and yes there is such a thing as hypoallergenic piercings..I think in your case you should try PTFE. It is Teflon based jewelry that is completely hypoallergenic.. PTFE or Polytetrafluoroethylene. Ask about it! It's flexable and easier to keep clean. When you get the piercing use a lot of Neosporin, it will help with the healing and some salt to mix into water for rinsing you can also use saline solution (contact lens rinse) but DON'T swallow it! Also when washing your face use only anti-bacterial like Dial or Softsoap, and never touch your piercing without clean hands. Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing leave it alone except when cleaning. You can use any kind of mouthwash for the inside of the piercing so long it doesn't have alcohol in it, and you might want to pick up some ibuprofen for the swelling. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry while healing except possibly during cleaning.- Stay healthy. Get enough sleep and eat a nutritious diet. The healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal. Exercise during healing is fine, just listen to your body.- Make sure your bedding is kept clean and changed regularly. Wear clean, comfortable breathable clothing that protects your piercing while sleeping.
Good Luck..

It's possible that you're alergic to the materials. Since your ears are healed, I don't think it'd work to switch out your earings to another material and see if you react to that. I'm guessing the only way to actually know if you're alergic or not would be to see a doctor? The piercer might have a higher grade metal that you could use. But I'm not sure how highly you're allergic if you had a reaction to gold.
(About one of the bottom posts... DONT rotate your jelwery. Even earings. it just causes you to break the healing seal and irritate the piercing more. It can also let bacteria in.)

i have had lousy luck with piercings too.
my ears have 8 holes each and they get all infected and gross
everyonce in a while, then they'll be fine for a while,
the 1st time i got my nose done, it got super infected right away,
then i took it out and then i had it done a little while later on in life and its okay, but it still is prones to getting messed up
the only thing that didnt suck was the belly button or the tounge
idk why, maybe some people just cant have piercings

monroe piercings cant really grow out..so you may as well try..
I would suggest you buy a flexi dental safe accrylic monroe ring and ask the piercer to use that ring..
its unlikely that your body will reject that..
i have my labret done which is kind of similar to monroe, the worst that could happen is infection, if you get an infection dab detol on it for a few days, if infection doesnt go down change the barbel to either stainless surgical steel, sterling silver, 9k gold, 14 k gold, and etc, keep experimenting and dabbing detol on it , there has to be some type of metal that your body wont reject.
my labret got very very horribly infected from a gold plated labret ring, but after changing to sterling siler and some concentrate detol, back to normal.
my nipples kept rejecting surgical steel, so i kept going back to the piercer and he kept re-piercing them for free until they stayed in (it took 3 times for my right nipple and 2 times for my left nipple)
my ears reject EVERYTHING if i wear any sort of earrings they puff up like balloons, so i do know your frustration, go to a piercer that does "free checkups" they may be a bit more expensive but if the piercing is anything but perfect after a week they will fix it, and they are professionals so they should be able to figure it out..
i should do it with my ears..

Try stainless (a.k.a. surgical) steel rings. Keep it clean but don't use antibiotic creams and ointments because they can trap dirt and bacteria. Be sure to rotate the rings around several times a day while the piercing is still healing.

I would suggest going to a doctor and have them test if you are allergic to certain types of metals. i have had people who couldn't wear gold, but could wear titanium or steel just fine. or if you can't wear metal you could try one of the bioflex (basically plastic) monroes.
good luck!

i have 23 piercings and have never had any of this happen to me but if your body is rejecting them, maybe thats a sign that you shouldn't get them. Believe my hun, I'm all for piercings but think about it, I'm just being realistic.
