I also have an astigmatism. In fact, that is my primary vision problem. I have been wearing glasses for almost 35 years, and my prescription is still one of the lightest there is. The glasses will help reduce eye strain and "wear and tear" on your eyes.
As long as you go to a reputable opthamologist/optometrist, your glasses should only improve your ability to see, not make your eyesight worsen. You can also get a second opinion if you're not happy with the first one.
By the way, over the years, I have gone back for an eye exam feeling like I was ready for "coke bottles." In reality, I just needed an adjustment in the positioning of my glasses on my face.

No. You will not ruin your eyes by getting a stronger glasses prescription. Astigmatism is caused from your cornea not being round but instead is more football shaped so the image is split when it hits the retina. Glasses will not change the curve of the eye, it will only correct for the problem. Don't suffer with headaches and eye strain when there is an easy remedy. Not sure of your age but that can cause rapid vision changes as well, younger people going through grown spurts will often change glasses often and this happens again when we get closer to forty, or with the progression of cataracts. All of these can make you more far or near sighted also.

There are some exercises for your eyes ,they are fairly easy to do . as I have astigmatism and don't wear glasses yet. foods with vit.E and other anti-oxidants seem to help.
I also have access to a HBO (Hyper Barrack Oxygen) chamber and about ten treatments per year does wonders . It even helps dissolve scare tissue .
It is fun to watch the optician scratch his head from the improvement in eye-sight.
My dad had trifocals and took HBO treatments and now is using bifocals and almost not needing them
What the astigmatism is is an egg or uneven shape to the cornea.

If you do not need a stronger rx then do not get stronger ones. Make sure they are giving you the right type of glasses. Maybe corrective surgery could help

with glasses it is possible for your eyesight to decrease over time with glasses. I don't know exactly how or why it does it, but I know that with contacts, my prescription has changed very little over the 7 years I have had them. I've only had to get new lenses in my glasses twice, I think (don't have the records with me)
So I dont' have any substantial proof other than my experience, but I would talk to your eye doctor about your concerns, and he can help you. But if you can get away with only wearing glasses some of the time, consider yourself lucky. I've been wearing them all the time since I was five.

Yeah, eyeglasses only suppress the problem. I suggest finding out if you are an eligible candidate for Lasik eye surgery. This virtually harmless procedure permanately corrects your eyesight back to 20/20 vision!

No logic, if your Rx changes, buy some 3 fashionable frames and change the lens

Not really. Glasses only help you see more clearly, which actually makes your eyes less tired. Because you don't strain your eyes as much, your eyes will feel better and if you have headaches, it can often help.
