I would use Leylandii.. yes I know it's not popular but it is very effective.. depends what you are trying to hide!! or hide from lol!! to have it look really neat.. plant close together and over the first few years be sure to cut it regularly.. perhaps put in strings and posts to show the shape you would like it to take and then cut any overgrowth that protrudes beyond the shape for exact distances ask at the garden centre where you buy the plants as different types require sligtly different spacing.. Buy from a reputable Garden centre.. not B& Q or focus etc. as the advice you can receive at a proper garden centre will be invaluable.. otherwise drive around choose a hedge you like surrounding someones garden and go and ring the bell and ask them what it is bet they can tell you all the pluses and minuses.. Happy digging! and pruning

It just doesn't grow any faster or come any cheaper than privet hedges. Just make sure to prune 1 or 2 times a year to keep it from growing 15 feet tall.
I planted 150 to hid the neighbors ugly storage sheds. They get small white flowers that turn into berries and birds eat in winter. Just be careful when you trim.....they will take root just laying on the ground. They don't spred but easy to root.
They will be 5 feet tall almost by years end.
Good Luck!

well think first - fast growing keeps growing fast and you'll be forever trimming the thing. but most gardening nurseries know there stuff and shoudl be able to advice as soil type/light/drainage are a factors too.

Leylandiae but keep a tight control on the height otherwise you end up with 40 foot trees.
