He who would give up a single liberty
for a moment of "security"
deserves neither liberty OR security !!
This act is as wide open to the abuse
of power as any legislation that has
ever been enacted !! And, the people
who desire it's unbridled leverage will
not report ANY negative information on
the circumstances it has created that have
caused Major upheavel in numerous lives
with no true just cause !! And, this is to say
people are not ALLOWED the access to the
true information ABOUT what transpires UNDER
the hammer of this law--- because this Law protects
itself with secrecy gauranteed BY itself !!! This
legislation is a Trojan Horse just waiting to crack
loose at the very first chief administrator who decides
that those who oppose him for any reason whatsoever
ARE the enemy--- with that one decision-- THIS LAW
can turn on the people themselves and pull their very lives
apart for public inspection at the drop of a hat !! This is
entirely too much power and authority to be handing
anyone --- no matter HOW PATRIOTIC THEY SEEM !!!!

No, I don't believe that it should be repealed. I believe that the Patriot Act is difficult for ALL personnel of the government to understand every single 'in and out'. Sometimes there are time-lines which cannot be met. Just because it's a Dem congress in now, that absolutely EVERYTHING anyone does in every area of government is WRONG.
Big business has to learn, that when the FBI comes in and retrieves records, that means there is an ongoing investigation. LEGALLY, when there's such an investigation about certain people going on, IT IS TO BE HUSHED by whichever company is involved. These so called 'unlawful' actions against the Patriot Act are possibly messed up as far as time-lines go, but 'hushing' an open investigation IS legal within the system.
Everyone is looking to bury the administration with their bureaucratic bull....and NO ONE has ever paid more attention to the FBI, or CIA until now.

I am no fan of Governmental intervention. I don't like Big government at all actually. But i don't think the Patriot act should be repealed.
The Patriot Act has assisted in the halting of several more attackes against our country, IN our country.
Sometimes you have to resign an aspect of freedom for better security.

Yes. The FISA laws prior to 9/11 were more than enough to fight terrorism.
FISA has a provosion for law enforcement agents to collect information on named terrorists and foreign citizens without a court order in an emergency situation. Then, the agents must take the information or person infront of a secret FISA court.
Otherwise, if there is no exigent circumstances, the agents most go to FISA court for a warrant.
ONLY 4 warrant applications have been denied of over 20,000 filed.
PATRIOT ACT IS A COMMUNISTS DREAM.

absolutely.
Many people that support the act also lay part of the blame of 9/11 at Clinton's feet in the form of inaction. Since the patriot act didn't exist then I can only conclude that the methods available prior to the act were sufficient for monitoring terrorism and the only function the act serves is to broaden the government's ability to act covertly against the citizens.

If you were reading the text under the speech at msnbc, while ignoring the speech, you would think yes. (yes, I had it on msnbc during the speech)
But if you listened to the speech, you would have heard that the act is good, and responsible for a great number of thwarted threats, however, the management of using the act needs to be tweaked a bit.
But i'm sure there are plenty of liberals who did not hear that, and only read the obvious biased text.

No. Don't scrap everything because of one instance. Deal with the FBI, and punish those who need to be. Thats using the logic, if a police officer shoots someone unjustly we should stop giving officers guns. No, we punish that officer and in this case punish those responsible, and put safeguards in be sure this doesn't happen again.

It needs to be re-written or amended.
The Republicans used it for posturing. The Democrats need to give it moral substance and purpose.
