What do you know about Tibentan Singing Bowls? Purchasing them?

I had my first experience with these bowls and loved it. I would love to buy one or two but am not sure what I should be looking for in a good bowl. How do I know they are authentic?

Some are antique and some modern. Does it make a difference which you buy?

Can you actually pay more than a Bowl is worth?

How do you avoid being ripped off?

Traditional Singing Bowls are made of an alloy that combines 7 types of metals to create a certain resonance that promotes a calmed mind and heart. This was told to me by a Tibetan Thangka Painter and Statue artist, Kunga Namgyal. He said Each type of metal combined is supposed to activate and balance energy centres within our bodies ie. Over active would calm, and sluggish energy centres would energise.

Nowadays he said, most singing bowls are made from only 3-4 alloys, they still work just as great and the prices are like70% cheaper.

Depending where you are... the prices of Singing Bowls can vary...they are calculated according to weight and type of metals. The best quality ones come from Nepal, and second best would be India and Tibet.

The prices can range from US20 - US 100 for a 6" radius bowl with stick, depending on the metal quality. Its very hard to NOT get ripped off unless you are very familiar with Tibetan artifacts. I had the good fortune of my artist friend whom i hve known for a number of years.

Just buy what you can afford, and listen for the sound that makes you go..OHHH MY, THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!! :) good luck

Goto snowlionpub.com or Tibetan Buddhist websites under the stuff for practice. I always just use Wisdompubs.org for books but they might have them too. You buy what you like, compare prices, like any other kind of shopping and you'll get an idea about what's outrageous and not.

    Happy shopping.

ive got 2, they cost me £10 ($20) really cool.

it doesnt matter if they are authentic, but you give money to the monks if you choose to go that way, which is always nice.

I haven't considered buying one, (they're expensive) but you can buy recordings on CD if you just love the sound. (great for meditation) Try amazon.com.
