5 month old kitten bites her own toe nails. Why?

Our 5 month old kitty bites her toe nails for what seems like no reason. I trim them almost every 2 weeks so there isn't much nail there anyway.

Is it normal for a cat to bite her toe nails?

Is it possible for the cat to bite the pink part?

It's a very normal part of grooming.

I've had cats all my life and all of them have down that.

I suppose it's possible she may bite down to the quick, but I really don't think she will...she's not going to do anything that's going to cause her pain.

My cats do that too. They're doing something very natural. Biting the nail helps them to shed the outer layer of the nail. Occasionally I'll find claws around the house ... I think it's adorable.

Please stop cutting your cats nails. They need their nails for a variety of things.

Yes it is normal for a cat to bite her own nails, it is in there nature to groom themselves. Just like humans they know when to stop biting are nails before it hurts.(ouch) The cat will take care of itself, no need to clip her nails, let nature take it's course. Take care

Yossarian, there is no reason to stop trimming cats nails. If they are trimmed they still have them and are able to do all the things they want to do. Trimming is not the same as declawing.

handle her such as you may deal which comprise your toddler. make certain she knows of you are the Mommy right here, no longer her. you may set the limitations for her and coach her the regulations. you additionally can head on down on your close by petsmart or comparable shop and %. up some thing to cover her claws. They make booties and likewise those little plastic issues that slide over in basic terms the claw. in addition they sell a wall plug in which will produce a scent which you mustn't be conscious, yet your kitten will. it is going to help calm her down (i think of it extremely is a mommy cat scent). Get out a number of that capability too. Get or make a cat tower for her to romp and climb and circulate nuts in. you may keep in mind that it extremely isn't the region she is used to. She is used to the streets or the pound, and has discovered that she desires to be frustrating to stay to tell the tale. it is going to soak up basic terms somewhat for her to examine that for the time of your place carry she is risk-free. The before suggested squirt bottle in somebody else's positioned up is likewise a great ingredient to do! Our one cat replaced right into a great biter! She love nips, and has broken the floor before. She additionally has a super sturdy will and actually had a hay day destroying issues around the domicile whilst she first moved in. We offered a squirt bottle and can 'shoot' her whilst she'd hop up places she wasn't allowed or scratch the furnishings. Now a days I in basic terms could %. up the squirt bottle and he or she stops what she is doing and walks off. we've additionally resorted to flicking her gently in the nostril or ear whilst she bites. It sounds propose i'm particular, yet we did no longer prefer to hazard her biting the toddler. She has lost that habit altogether whilst she found out that biting=soreness. stable good fortune

Perhaps they are bothering her BECAUSE you are trimming them. Cat's dont need their nails trimmed...they do it naturally buy scratching things like trees etc. If she is an inside cat you should get her a scratching post where she can get her nails trimmed naturally. Please dont trim them anymore...cats use their claws almost as another appendage.

Yes sometimes they do but if she still keep biting the nails.

Just check to make sure that she is hurt or fungus infection or inflammation.

Or you may cut too deep and she is hurting.

    good luck!!!

It's just a form of grooming. My 8-yr old cat has always done this and has not had any problems because of it. Cats are picky anyway they seem to want everything done their way!! :)
