dont be afraid to give your cat an injection--their skin is tougher than you think. Im sure your vet will give a size 22 needle which is the least painful for a cat. you will get used to it and so will the cat-- dont forget if he or she cries its only because they are just as nervous the first few times as you are---good luck and be brave!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At our cat kennel I have to give to cats I do not know at all. This can be very intimidating. But if you make it as fun as possible for the cat and you.. You will not feel so bad. What I do is give the kitty a few small pieces of chicken while they are enjoying it I give the injection. Make sure and get the short needles they are so much easier. You can barely tell you are giving the shot. Remember most people are squeemish about needles penetrating skin with a cat all you see is fur it does not register the same. You can feel when you hit bottom and then you squeeze the syringe. It is a tiny tiny bit of liquid. Once you get good you can do it in 1-2 seconds. Make sure and give and acceptable treat while giving the injection this way you will not just be chasing him down at the same time twice a day... they get real smart and will just avoid you during these hours. Also it is good for them to eat something first or during the shot it helps with keeping them regulated. Not good on empty stomach.

Ok its easy for me to say they are simple easy injections to give as I am a Vet Tech, however they are pretty simple to give.
The amount of insulin is a very small volume and the needle is super fine.
It is a subcutaneous injection (goes just under the skin) unlike our injections which are intramuscular and therefor painful. MOst cats do not react to insulin injections at all especially if you give it while they are eating which is a good time as you must give injection after cat has eaten
The following website is very comprehensive and your vet should teach you and get you to give a couple of injections prior to sending your cat home so that you feel comfortable. If you don't ask to practice more (they can just use saline instead of insulin)

Remember to move the site of injection around or else the skin becomes harder to put the needle through.
Good luck, you will get use to it!

Not insulin shots.. but we always bought our vaccinations from the local feed store and my step dad gives them the shots himself. The shots never really upset them... their skin is really tough on the back of their necks.. so as long as your calm about doing it.. your kitty will get used to it.

If you have concerns I would strongly recommend that you discuss them with your pets Veterinarian, and ask him/her to show you how to give the injections. The need is quit small, not the size you may be thinking of. Good luck and talk to your vet about your concerns.
