Who should we believe?

The scientists that say global warming will kill our grandchildren or the scientists that say the microwave radiation from mobile phones will kill us? Or should we ignore both sets as mistaken?

Update:

OK SOME scientists say one thing and other scientists say another. My question was what should we believe?

I think global warming is a natural occurrence that is going to happen whatever..we humans are speeding it up in our use of fossil fuels...but the scientists are definitely not always right and nowadays seem to be the biggest scare mongers of all..we may all worry about whats going to happen over the next hundred years or so regarding global warming, but for all we know we may be wiped out by a meteorite or serious diseases or just some nutcase leader and their nuclear arsenal or even a super volcano at any point in time

Mobile phone use i don't think poses any real threat and i certainly won't worry about it,it's not that long ago that the so called experts were saying that your microwave ovens were giving out doses of radiation

To really know you need to cut out the media middle man when learning about scientific issues and look at what scientists are actually saying, what evidence they are basing their claims on, and if you agree with the conclusions that they've drawn from it. The science most people hear about is through the media and this information is presented by people who don't understand properly what they are writing about. A good place to start is www.scirus.com - look at journal articles. This is how scientists tell each other about their research and new ideas and gives their real data from experiments. Read the bit at the start called the abstract first - that's like a summary of what the article is about. Then when you find an interesting one read the rest of the article and try to figure out what they did and if you think that the conclusions that they are making are reasonable or not.

Well....you'd have to have you head buried in the sand to not notice the changes in the weather patterns, the changes in the migration of fish and birds, the loss of forests, the acid rain, the tons and tons of rubbish piling up, the pollution fogs over large cities in the summer....if you want to ignore all that, fine!

The problem with global warming is that it encompasses many ecosystems and it's actually quite difficult to get the whole picture. So many things are affected and in turn affect other things, and that's why some people are quite happy to say that global warming is scare mongering....even though it's right there in front of us!

Well, we could just ignore both and enjoy your life in blissful ignorance... Tralalalala, the more you know the more you'll worry. ;)

But it seems now that scientists have agreed that global warming is happening (and will probably kill all of our grandchildren). The latest crunch point is more if it's due to our wrongdoings. So if we'd stop using our cars now, would it be possible to delay the process, so that it might only be all of our great-great-grandchildren who'll die? Very tricky. ;)

your question illustrates what is wrong with the statements made by the scare mongers. When you say scientists say this or that but leave out the word "some" you imply that all scientists agree with the statement. This is untrue. I doubt that half of the honest scientists agree with the global warming scenario.

Well if every warning we´re not doomed, its also because we have the power (both intellectual and material) to countersteer in the right direction.

Global warming shouldn´t be scary since we can probably limit it greatly at a very minimum cost. You won´t even have to pay 0,5% of what you will earn in the following 30 years !!! so less than you pay for one inch larger TVscreen. And what is more important ? To be fair to all future generations and give them the same possibilities we had ? Or the larger TV which will be obsolete in 10 years ?

What is really scary about it is the relative passive attitude of the US or even denying attitude to protect our little interest and jeopardizing our children´s future to spare peanuts.

Source(s): Do you know what YOU should be worried about for global warming ? The US agriculture which will really be affected if the temperature increases. Not to mention water supply. The US will just become dryer.... just like Mexico :-)

I would believe the whole global warming thing. Because, for instance, Polar Bears are drowning by the hundreds every day because global warming is causing the ice caps to melt, which means they have to swim farther to get to another patch of ice, which results in many of them drowning from exhaustion.

    Believe is one thing.

Use Internet and books to gather facts, information and compare different opinions is another thing.

Think, careful research and watch facts closer is more important than just hear and bow heads.

You ever noticed how every day they (scientists, politicians, doctors etc) seem to find a new way to tell us we're doomed...? I don't see why really unless they want us all to turn into a bunch of whimpering wrecks too afraid to step out of the front door - I try to forget it, ignorance is bliss.

These are the same people who told us, a few decades ago, we were all going to freeze to death. Simply put, the whole global warming "chicken little" crowd simply isn't very credible.
