They are Italian. The Guzzi tranverse V-twin is based on a 1940s aircraft engine. After the war, they moved into bikes.
Unfortunately, the basic engine has remained much the same for decades, and they have far more in common with Harley-Davidson than with, say, Ducati. Their legendary racers of the 1940s and 50s have nothing to do with their road bikes.
Critics say they are unreliable, underpowered, have clunky gearboxes and silly linked brakes (the brake pedal also activates one front caliper). fans point out that Guzzis have great heritage, many classic models (such as the Le Mans Mk 2 and the Daytona) look great, and they sound wonderful.
