Who are the Most Prolific Grass-Roots Leaders of OUR Time?

grass-roots /ˈgræsˌruts, -ˌrʊts, ˈgrɑs-/ –adjective

of, pertaining to, or involving the common people, as contrasted with or separable from an elite.

Such leaders seem to just suddenly appear often out of nowhere to alter the national path pursued, to cleanse the old ways, and stake out a saner, more just means of living and governing.

WHERE ARE THEY? WHO ARE THEY?

Coming from the UK, I see many, far too many to mention completely. They may not be prolific, but they are hardworking and sometimes effective. Examples include the rather large anti war coalition in Europe; environmental groups like Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace; trade unions like mine that are trying to stop outrageous work conditions for public sector workers (I'm a university lecturer and earn a pittance). In America, it would include people that are publishing their own websites and movies to question the police state that America is fast becoming, as well as the smaller anti-war groups, (though it seems there are few groups protesting the fact that for the richest country in the world, there is also the highest poverty rate among developed nations). Internationally, Evo Morales rocks--the first indigenous President of Bolivia, and he is really, truly representing the people and doesn't give a stuff about big business.

Would you say the green movement is mostly grassroots or sponsored by big government?

I would say it was a grass roots movement and it's leader would be Al Gore.
