Trying to live a Bill of Rights, freedom-oriented life in the face of an ever more federalized and security-obsessed America. In any free society, the conflict between social conformity and individual liberty is permanent, unresolvable, and necessary. – Kathleen Norris It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve. – Henry George No matter how many freedoms are sacrificed on the alter of "injustice" we will still have injustice - but we will not have Liberty."

If you have never smoked and couldn't give a damn if it gets banned then consider the fact that cell phones are emerging as the new kid on the bloc as far as cancer's best friend goes. If the government can regulate our personal habits and behavior, what's next?
Does the same government that is raining down depleted uranium in all corners of the world, playing Dr. Frankenstein with our food and drugging us into oblivion with psychotropic poison pills, really care about our physical well-being?

9 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy Am I Wrong for Wanting to Legalize Drugs?
If the government can't keep drugs away from inmates who are locked in steel cages, surrounded by barbed wire, watched by armed guards, drug-tested, strip-searched, X-rayed, and videotaped – how can it possibly stop the flow of drugs to an entire nation?
If the words 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' don't include the right to experiment with your own consciousness, then the Declaration of Independence isn't worth the hemp it was written on. All Americans have ever asked is equal freedom. When it is denied, as it always is, we take it anyhow, as we always have.
I understand that because we have freedom, not everything is under our control. If people are free in any meaningful sense of the word, that means they are at liberty to foul up their lives as much as make something grand of them. That's our birthright, a gamble we all take. That's the risk of liberty. Nobody wants others to screw up their lives, but each MUST be free to do so for themselves.

13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoShould A President Own All Media?
I would very much appreciate your feelings on this. Thank you.
I just learned that Mitt Romney's private equity firm, Bain Capital , and Thomas H. Lee Partners have agreed to pay in a leveraged buyout agreement with Clear Channel Communications , the largest radio station owner in the country for 19.5 Billion. This is the release from Clearchannel's website:
http://www.clearchannel.com/Corporate/PressRelease...
and BAIN CAPITAL::
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bain_c...
Clear Channel owns over 1,100 full-power AM, FM, and shortwave radio stations, twelve radio channels on Satellite Radio, and more than 30 television stations in the United States. Premiere Radio Networks , which is the largest syndication company in the United States, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Clear Channel and is home to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and many other household names.
Could it be that Romney will use his new-found media outlet as a passive wing of his Campaign?

11 AnswersPolitics1 decade ago(Republican Congressman and Presidential candidate) How Can We Not IMPEACH Bush?
Read up on Paul, he is a conservative citizen statesman, a Texan and a hero. He doesn't play games either.
Republican Congressman and Presidential candidate Dr.Ron Paul says that Bush should be impeached not under the umbrella of partisan vengeance but for ceaselessly breaking the laws of the land.
"President Bush has presided over a system wide doctrine of violating the Constitution, from the Iraq War to the War on Terrorism and pursuing a North American Union agenda, without legally required Congressional oversight.
When the President signs all these bills and then adds statements after saying I have no intention of following it - he's in a way signing it and vetoing - so in his mind he's vetoing a lot of bills, in our mind under the rule of law he hasn't vetoed a thing.

Joe Scarborough Attacks Rosie O'Donnell, Barbara Walters & ABC For debating a serious issue...the collapse of WTC building 7.
Scarborough then brings in the political expert Danny Bonaduce, who says that O'Donnell should be 'strung up for treason' and 'aiding and abetting the enemy'. He then goes on to seriously defend that point.

Rosie O'Donnell: No, but I do beleive that in the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel. I do beleive that it defies physics for the World Trade Center Tower 7, Building 7 [570 feet tall, 47 stories, and not hit by an airplane], which collapsed in on itself ; it is impossible for a building to fall the way it fell without explosives being involved. World Trade 1 and 2 got hit by planes. 7, miraculously, the first time in history, steel was melted by fire. It is physically imossible.

13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy would the U.S Government HIJACK planes and KILL AMERICANS to incite WAR?(here's proof)?
WISH THIS WERE NOT TRUE, BUT THIS IS FACT
Made public on November 18, 1997 by the Assassination Records Review Board.
Actual Operation Northwoods de-classified document from the NATIONAL SECURITY ARCHIVE housed at George Washington University.
http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/news/20010430/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods
Signed into order by the CHAIRMAN and EVERY MEMBER of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the plan (read it yourself) calls for innocent Citizens to be shot on American streets; American ships to be sunk; for a wave of violent "terrorism" to be launched in major East coast cities.
Operation Northwoods calls for Foreign Nationals to be framed for bombings they did not commit; and for planes to be hijacked and crashed into landmarks. Using the phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on a foreign country, giving Political and Military leadership the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they need to launch a war.

13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoShould Americans Have the Right to Know Which Foods Are GENETICALLY MODIFIED?
The FDA declared GE foods to be safe in the face of broad disagreement from its own experts -- all the while claiming an overwhelming scientific consensus supported its stance.
Evidence shows the agency flagrantly violates the U.S. Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, which mandates that new food additives be demonstrated safe through testing before they are marketed. While the FDA admits that bioengineered organisms fall under this provision, it claims they are exempt from testing because they are "generally recognized as safe", even though their own scientists disagree.
Every genetically engineered food in the U.S. is on the market illegally and should be recalled for rigorous safety testing. The FDA has deliberately unleashed a host of potentially harmful foods onto American dinner tables in blatant violation of U.S. law. AND YOU DONT GET TO KNOW WHICH FOODS THEY ARE.

12 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWere The 9/11 Attacks Good Because They Pushed Policies That There Wasn't Enough Fear To Push Before?
"Seeing Jane Fonda Saturday was enough to make me wish the unthinkable: it will take another terror attack on American soil in order to render these left-leaning crazies irrelevant again. Remember how quiet they were after 9/11? No one dared take them seriously. It was the United States against the terrorist world, just like it should be."
-Tuesday, January 30, 2007 Mike Gallagher (Radio host/ Fox political pundit)
Mike Gallagher's comments are not an isolated instance. Similar thoughts have been expressed to varying degrees by a number of republicans and democrats over the past few years. There are many who seem to look fondly on the 9/11 attacks because they provided an excuse to push through domestic and international policies they themselves had long advocated, but could not muster enough support to implement.
Many are manipulating our fears, it is true, but it's clearly out of a conviction of the rightness of their cause. Does this make it right?

Universal National Service Act
http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:S.89:
"To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."
Former Secretary of Defense William Cohen
"I think there should be a commitment to universal service. I think that only a few people are really committed to this war against terrorism and called. I think the American people have to be - understand - that we're all in this together. We ought to have a real call to national service to commit ourselves to some form of public service,"
