How do yo see God?
i.e. his characteristics, his nature, his plan...
Oops... it sould say "How do you see God." I am curious what your views of him are. I have my own very strong views, so I wanted to see how others saw him. Thanks.
Bryan. Based on your response I am curious what you see God's physical nature as being and what you think his plan is. I like your responses about getting to know him and to become like him though.

Loving and Merciful, full of grace and compassion for his creation. Perfect and sinless, can never lie. Always was and always will be. His plan is to have is creation to be with him for eternity, but because they love him, not by force, hence, we have free will to make that choice. He is patient with us and loves us. He will lead our lives and intercede in our life, if all we will do is ask.

God is Light and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5). His nature is love, God is Love (1 John 4:8). His plan is for us to find him within ourselves and discover the Kingdom of Heaven (Gospel of Thomas, verse 3).

I see God as a grandfather-ly figure. He means well for everyone and he has a different plan for everyone. No one is to know what his plan is until each different aspect folds out. I believe that He has set up rules for how we need to live our lives, but I don't necessarily believe they're stated correctly in the Bible.

I think that (and I may sound very very silly) if you want to-there is a way. Be in awe of His wonderful work and love. Pray that everyday, your Love for Him increases more and more. One day, as you pray, you will actually feel His love and your love for Him. If you close your eyes, you can almost see it as a light. And yes I may sound really weird-but it worked for me. So please be kind-anywhoo this is a way of "seeing" G-d, but seeing Him with your soul as we all know, we humans can never comprehend G-d, but He does give us the opportunity to get close to Him in little small "humanly-possible" ways.

I think God is the perfect love. He created this whole universe and our earth, and put us on Earth, gave us free choice so that we could choose Him on our own. Our whole purpose on earth is so that we could pursue Him and try and get to know just Who God is.... He left a void in our soul that everyone feels, that everyone tries to fill with something but that void is so that we would be pulled closer to Him. I think God is the perfect Father, The Perfect Judge, He is mighty and strong (EL), God is all sufficient and Almighty (EL SHADDAI) He relies on nothing, He is the Great Provider (JEHOVAH-JIREH) because He gives us so much, He is the Great Healer (JEHOVAH-ROPHE - The Lord Who Heals), He is our Banner (JEHOVAH-NISSI) used to paint a picture that when we fight our battles that God is our strength, He is a God who Sanctifies us (JEHOVAH-M'KADDESH), He is a God of Peace (JEHOVAH-SHALOM), He is our Shepherd (JEHOVAH-ROHI from Psalm 23) we're His dumb sheep (haha) and He's trying to guide us, He sees all, knows all, He is the perfect Artist because when you look at nature, imagine coming up with all of its intricacies and beauty out of nothing but your head, He is a musician because He created music and sounds, He is our Deliverer (PALET), He is a God of seeing (EL ROI) or a God who opens our eyes, He is a jealous lover becaues He hates when we settle for things of this world when He offers us so much more, He is our Reedemer (GAOL) because He bought us back with a price from our slavery to sin and the price was His only son Jesus, He is our Shield because He protects us from evil, He is everlasting, Holy and set apart and He never does anything contrary to His holiness.... His actions are always in conjunction to His holy character, He is the Alpha and Omega - The beginning and end.
Those are to name a few.

We would not know unless we were God.....but, I'll take a stab. His plan is for us to love one another, His nature is unconditional love, and his characteristics (if you mean physical)....the most tremendous bright, loving, light.

Well, according to Patanjali you must first still the mind to see him. Stilling the mind takes a lot of work and time. I know of nobody who can describe how to see his plan (like tonights winning lotto number? no).
Good luck.

Some ways to "see God" are:
- to study his interactions with people as found in the Bible and other such accounts
- to focus on God-like attributes in those around you (you can see God in others)
- to become "pure in heart" as mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount.
- to become more like God -- the more we become like Him the better we'll understand Him
- to talk with people who seem to know Him or behave as you think God would behave
- to talk with Him through prayer

God is inconceivable...to name characteristics other than absolutes (omnipresence for example) would only be a deviation from actuality.
Sometimes this is called Unknowable...although this is not totally accurate either.
