Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks for the things one has at the end of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
In the United States, certain kinds of food are traditionally served at Thanksgiving meals. First and foremost, turkey is usually the featured item on any Thanksgiving feast table (so much so that Thanksgiving is sometimes referred to as "Turkey Day"). Stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, Indian corn, other fall vegetables, and pumpkin pie are commonly associated with Thanksgiving dinner. All of these primary dishes are actually native to the Americas or were introduced as a new food source to the Europeans when they arrived.
A collective prayer of thanksgiving was held in the Virginia Colony on December 4, 1619 near the current site of Berkeley Plantation, where celebrations are still held each year in November.
The Pilgrims were particularly thankful to Squanto, the Native American who taught them how to catch eel, grow corn and who served as an interpreter for them (Squanto had learned English as a slave in Europe). Without Squanto's help the Pilgrims might not have survived in the new world. The explorers who later came to be called the "Pilgrims" set apart a day to celebrate at Plymouth immediately after their first harvest, in 1621. At the time, this was not regarded as a Thanksgiving observance; harvest festivals were existing parts of English and Wampanoag tradition alike.

I think it's because the Pilgrims had Thanksgiving with the Indians. The celebration was three day's long. Ever since, we American and maybe other country celebrated. It is celebrated in November but that's not the month the Pilgrims celebrated it. Hopes that helps!

I think it's in November... not sure. But the Thanksgiving is celebrated because when the pilgrims came the natives taught them how to do the crops and everything... and then they celebrated, in a nutshell.

The thanksgiving is a day the Americans give thanks for all the things they got around the whole year.
It originated centuries ago, when the first pilgrims came to America, with a lot of problems and barely no food.
They were helped by the Indians and that's what they give thanks to every year.
Oh, and it's normally celbrated in the last week of November.

Well its a celebration of family and friends. The Native Americans in Massachusetts helped the Pilgrims harvest food for the spring and provided them with food to eat during the Winter. They had friendly relations for quite some time.

hey im from the US. im suprised that you dont have one- i thought it was world wide but now that i think of it, it is the story of the first colonist coming here. and ya you could say that we stole it from the indians- but i had nothing to do with it. well, any ways, we did not know what to do, the colonist were confused and did not know how the land was and how to get food and all. so we made freinds with the indians and we intoduced stuff to them- and they taught us how to hunt and eat. and so after about a year of being together- we all had a big dinner and eat lots- together- all of hte colonist and all of the indians. they had normal veggies and the main dish was a trukey. and ever scince then, we have had a yearly dinner. it is national (i guess). and we eat turkey, and mashed potatoes, and pie, and corn, and tons of other stuff. it is known as turkey day. it is always on the 4th thursday of november. it is almost a tradition for a family friendly game of football-(american football) and we watch sports and it is just a nice day of relaxation. usually- before you eat- you are supposed to state all that you are thankful for- it is a day to recognize wat u r thankful for

Its towards the end of November, they are celebrating the stuff they have gotten throughout the harvest season. It is associated with the Pilgrims who colonised Virginia, and were especially thankful to the Native American Indians who had helped them to survive their initial time in the "New World". As a gift, the colonists gave the Native Americans lots of lovely diseases like smallpox... :)

The first european settlers depended on their survival the first years thanks to the native americans. Supposedly this was a week long feast which celebrated their success in the new world and many indians were included

It's in November. It's a time that we get together as families and have a big dinner and think back on the past year and thank God for all His goodness.
