I am a huge car audio/video fanatic. I have used both Sony and pioneer systems in the past both of them pound for pound both AWSOME!

For my current project a 1987 corvette convertible I considered the "Sony XAV-C1

7" Motorized Widescreen CD/DVD Media Center" and the "Pioneer AVH-P4900DVD

In-Dash DVD Multimedia AV Receiver" I went with the Pioneer based on the following reasons features ,sound quality, and clarity . I would recommend that if you are going to install a new deck you should also replace the factory speakers. Most of them are generally cheaply made. You can get great deals but make sure you stick with good quality equipment it all depends on what you are looking for. I went with the pioneer premier 6x9 on the back deck & 6 1/2 in the doors. If your going to go all out I would recommend the following system I have it in my Corvette.

    Head Unit:

    Pioneer AVH-P4900DVD

    Door Speakers:

6"1/2 Pioneer Premiers in custom mounts.

    Rear Deck:

6x9 Pioneer Premiers - Factory Mount

4 JL 6" subs in a custom built non ported box.

    Amps:

4 channel Oxygen amp @ 400 watts pushing the fronts and rears.

    2 channel Oxygen @ 800 watts pushing 4 6' subs

I would recomend Pioneer over all the best choice hands down!

Sony. Spring a little extra and get an Alpine

Edit: I say Sony because I've had nothing but problems from Pioneer, including Premier.

About the same difference as Coke and Pepsi. IN other words, not much difference at all. I have friends who swear by Kenwood, but I liked the features of the Pioneer Premier series better. It's worth a few extra bucks to invest in the Premier line by Pioneer, they have a longer warranty and typically have additional features that the regular Pioneer receivers don't have.

Sony may look cooler than pioneer , but my personal experience with Sony car's receivers has taught me they aren't so great. I would choose Pioneer. But my personal recommendation go with KENWOOD they are fine looking, great performance, many features, I have bought 4 radios kenwood and all were awesome.

Pioneer. Hands down. I've installed hundred of radios over the years and there is nothing special or good about sony products at all.

    Pioneer.

I had a Sony system installed many years ago, Cd player, Speakers, Amp, the works...it sounded like a POS, seriously.
