is mormonism looked down on in your state?

To answer your question, it seems the best way to answer it is to by answering from the exact opposite of your question.

I know of no state that would 'look up' at mormonism except Utah.

Not in Ohio!! Especially with more and more out of state Mormons moving here. Especially those from UTAH. They're returning to their roots, whether they know it or not.

I heard that, when the construction company that built the temple in Ohio were told what the building was for, they tore up the original blue prints, and designed a much better building. And there wasn't anything wrong with the originals. That's what I heard.

Here in Columbus, there was another split and we now have FOUR stakes! Just in Columbus, there's also Cleveland, Akron, Cincinatti, and I think Toledo.

Esther, I lived in California for nine years, and it's pretty big there, and seemed as accepted as any faith. California is pretty diverse in religions and most that I saw were accepted, or at least, left alone in peace.

Why don't you who say it's not accepted, or in the one case, what country it's not accepted in. I think that the only countries where we are not accepted are those middle eastern countries where Christianity in general is not accepted. We are even in China and the former Soviet Union. We built a temple in East Germany before the wall came down! If a temple is built, that means there is a sizable LDS population there to use it.

My sister is Mormon, and I was for a long time as well. We live in Georgia, and yes, being LDS is looked down upon in our area. It's considered a cult by many, and "wrong" by most.

But then again, in my area of Georgia, Catholicism, Judaism, and just about anything other than "Baptist" is considered wrong. A survey was recently taken at the local High School as a project for a friend of mine's son as part of his History class. He gave 200 students a list of 30 religions or sects of religions, and asked them to identify the Christian ones.

Only 2% of students recognized Catholicism as a Christian sect. Mormons were not recognized as Christians AT ALL! Neither were Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, or Pentecostals.

Most surprisingly of all, only 32% of people recognized METHODISTS as Christians!

So yes, anything besides a Southern Baptist is considered "weird" where I live.

Mormonism is generally looked down upon where I live. And there isn't only one reason. There are many.

What I would offer to the Mormons is the idea that there is less important about Joseph Smith than there is important about Jesus Christ.

It's all about Jesus, you have to trust in Jesus.

Mormonism has in it very nice people that in my opinion are sadly misled. I cannot speak for all of California. I know enough about the beliefs that the Mormon church teaches to dismiss them as not biblical. Sorry.

We enjoy a good reputation in most places these days. Most people recognize us as a people of good character. They may not believe all that we teach but they do acknowledge that we are basically a good people. It is for us to invite them to learn more about us. As Pres. Hinckley said, bring all that is good about you that you have learned and see if we can't add to that knowledge.

Some parts of Texas are very intolerant of the religion. But those parts are also filled with holy rollers...

I don't Think so. The strange thing is that when I lived in Utah I think it was more looked down on then it is here in Idaho.

By me, yes. In response to what was basically a dare by someone in this forum, I read the entire Book of Mormon. It is a pile of pretentious drivel, which would not convince anyone with the intelligence of a gnat. Judging from the occasional missionaries who call at my door, there are people around who do not have the intelligence of a gnat.
