Why do so many women, or so it seems, like to buy so many pairs of shoes...footwear? aka the...?

The Imelda Marcos Syndrome. Also...have any of you ever worn a pair only once or never and still own that pair? Or is this just a small % of women? Thanks.

Because women love to look beautiful and the shoes complete and enhance the look. I own around 150 shoes and yes, there are many that I wore once or never worn, but I will. By the way, my husband doesn't mind that I have so many shoes.

I was never much into shoes, had a few pairs of boots for barn work, sandals for summer, sneakers for winter... then ten years ago I stopped wearing shoes altogether. A lot of women care a lot about fashion, makeup etc... this isn't limited to their footwear either, most people I know have lots more dresses and all too, and buy more new stuff... I have quite a lot of dresses over the years 'cause I'm careful with my clothes and they last a long time but I never buy anything just 'cause it's in fashion, I don't care about that... don't even know what colors are 'in' this spring.

But most women buy loads of new stuff all the time... I think half really love new clothes but there are also a lot of people who'd be just as happy with less clothes but who feel they have to buy a new outfit for a party, or they should have that new style everyone wears... I wouldn't ever give names but I've had quite a few friends tell me they respected me for not caring about fashion and they wished they dared... that they'd really rather spent the money on other stuff but they were afraid of what people would say, of people looking down on them. Really sad I think, that public opinion and fashion magazines makes it such a requirement.

I never really got into shoes until I was in my late 20s. I didn't have very many pairs, but I like to buy ones in different colors and styles. Then when I was 30 I developed foot problems and had to buy new shoes to ease the pain. Buying new shoes was really, really fun, and it was fun to have a different color and different style for every outfit. A pair of shoes can make a big difference in how your clothes look and how you feel. Yes, it's a woman thing, and yes, I own lots of shoes, I think about 40 pairs. I wear all of them, and I take good care of all of them too.

It's true. Well, I have some shoes that I've bought that I've never worn before. I but them so I could show them off. But I wear most of my shoes. (All the time.) Women buy so many shoes.. because they complete any outfit.

It depends on whether the person has a zillion of the same color shoes (same style) or many of different shoes and wears them.

I love my shoes to match what I am wearing. If a person does not wear their mulitple of shoes and they just collect dust, then that's a crime. They should donate them or have a yard sale.

When the spring comes, I put my boots away and start wearing my shoes. Though, I also have a boot collection as well.

the reason is clothing and shoes are somehow a projection of who you are and buying new shoes gives you the false ilusion of being a new person everyday and the feeling of buying them gives such an adrenalin rush that it becomes adictive..

just look at that pair fo shoes you bought last week, they dont look as good as when you bought them.

it leads to an addiction that the apparel industry is really happy about and the credit card industry..too.

pscyhological studies have proven that this compulsive shoppers will never achieve real happiness. worst of all, they dont know that whith all the money they spend in things they wear only two times, they could have purchased things that have a bigger impact in your appearance..,...like a personal trainer or gym membership.

hey ladies..if you are fat., a 400 u.s dollars pair of shoes will not change that.

i feel sorry for the bimbo that wastes 95% of her salary in clothes and shoes.

the average lifespan is incresing steadily and the youth of today will live much much more than its expected but somehow its rare to see someone under 45 saving for retirement. they watse money on stupid things.

for those who use a pair only once justa s the rapstars you love...

let me say...you all make me puke..

many kids in lots of poor countries die because they dont have shoes and they have to walk over the filth , getting sick of horrible fungues and illnesses.

unfortunately this dumb tendecy of buying and buying is growng steadily in the u.s and europe.

thank you paris and lindsay...its all your fault.

For shizzle. YOu know what else I will never get about women and shoes. You will never catch a man walking around in uncomfortable shoes. It's just not an option.

It also cracks me up to watch how men and women shop for shoes. When a woman tries on shoes she looks down at them to see how they look. When a man tries on shoes he looks ahead to see how they feel.

If you ever go to a large department store the mens shoes are neatly organized and all in their place. The women's shoe department looks like Fallujah.
