Is it safe to turn on my laptop?

I had my mouse connected to the usb port on my laptop. Well, I dropped my laptop and it broke off. I got the pieces out of the mouse's connection piece. But I'm not sure if it's safe to turn on and use my laptop with that usb port like that. Is it safe to turn it on before sending it to get fixed?

There are currently two other usb ports on the laptop but it only broke off the plastic part of the usb and some of the wiring so there is some wires still in there..So it's not like the usb matters....I just want to know if it's safe to turn it on. What should I do?

Completely safe. Just turn it on, if the worse comes to happen, the fuse on your laptop will protect from something going really bad. The USB port can be in short that wont break it, but what could happen is your boot will take long then come on with an error like "device not responding" or something like that, that gives you time to do what you need before sending it to repair.

To fix the USB port, they'll have to replace the entire motherboard. That's right, the entire board.

A major cost of a laptop is the main board.

Sooo, in my opinion, there's not much worse you could do. Visually inspect the port to make sure you got every bit of conductive material and turn it on at your own risk. I would.

As long as it's only the USB port damaged, you should be good to go.

You PC does not use the USB to load the PC, instead it reads from it's BIOS and thehard drive. The only time it will read the USB is if there is something plugged in it.

it is probably safe to use the computer, at your own risk.

I think most of the computer will work ok, even if you short out the USB port.
