  • How much faster (and for how long) would you have to move to gain a year of lifetime compared to the average person on earth?

I apologize in advance if this is a foolish question or if my terminology is incorrect (I'm not a physics major or a student in a physics related field).

I have heard that the faster you move the slower time moves for you compared to others who are moving at slower speeds. This effect is very small and minuscule for pilots and Nascar drivers because they do not that much proportionately faster than the average person. So, given this fact, I was wondering at what speeds you'd have to reach and for what duration you'd have to have these speeds to see a significant impact in aging slower as compared to a normal individual on earth. Also are there any other variables at play besides speed and duration?

If this is calculable, I'd be curious to know how fast and for what duration you'd have to move to gain a year of lifespan as compared to someone aging normally on earth.

  • Speakers won't work but headphone will. What's going on?

I was having some issues with my harddrive having a memory leak and it was running out of space. I tried to install a Nvidia driver and everything got screwed up on my computer. I use an sli system with two video cards. I didn't realize at first it was my harddrive, so I switched the cards ports and later managed to get the video driver to install correctly after clearing space on my harddrive. My physical speakers have not worked since.

I can get audio to play perfectly now from my headphones, but my speakers will not play sound no matter how hard I try. I've tried making sure they're enabled, I've tried reinstalling the audio driver multiple times. I've tried everything I can think of with my sound settings and I can't figure out what's going on. My physical speakers are a surround sound system. I have 3 ports (black, orange, green used right now) that my speakers use. The computer detects that these are hooked up.

    Any ideas?

  • If a flea was scaled to be as big as a human would it still retain the ability to jump as long as it does now?

It's currently able to jump 220 times it's body length, but is it accurate to say it could jump 3 football stadiums if it was our size or would the distance be shortened if it was actually made that large?

  • How big would an asteroid have to be before the resulting fallout destroyed all life?

I'm wondering if it's ever been calculated and whether anyone knows. The lose of life can be due to atmospheric dust or from the impact itself. I'm just wondering how big a asteroid would have to be to wipe out all humans and most the life on the planet.

  • How small could the population of humans be before we lost the ability to reproduce our numbers?

After a certain point, we would be unable to recover from a mass extinction due to a lack of variance in genes. Lack of variance would cause inbreeding and would then cause defects in the population. I'm wondering how low the population of humans would have to be before we wouldn't be able to recover.

  • Is this a disorder and what would it be called?

Over the past year to a year and a half I've begun to mix up words in speech excessively. It's like I'll have the sentence formed perfectly when in my head, but, as soon as I try to speak it, I mix up two words when comparing things and say the exact opposite of what I meant. Sometimes, I'll also mix up single words like I'll say "roof" instead of "ceiling" or "geometry" instead of "geography." I'm beginning to get concerned about this; I'll look like an idiot half the time and will try to just pass it off as "you know what I mean" then have it happen again in another minute of conversation. It's happening purely with speech; I have no problems with text or written words besides forgetting how to spell long words sometimes. What is this?

  • Is it common to dream future events?

Unfortunately, I often do not remember the dreams until I'm in the present moment and it dawns on me that I dreamed the thing I was looking at or saying a few nights before. Usually though, when it happens I'll be looking at a ceiling fan or an object or place I had never been before that day and I will realize that I was viewing that same object or event in a dream I had and as I look around after seeing that object for the next few seconds I will know as it occurs everything I witness about 2 seconds ahead of when it does. It is sort've like the experience the main character has in Final Destination, though mine only give me about 6 seconds of insight at the most.

I've heard before that some scientists explain this on websites as the person having a double take of stimulus. Something doesn't go right and I end up feeling that I've experienced this before. I went with this explanation for a while till I got one long enough that I literally started a conversation with my friend knowing what I'd say and what they'd say in response to exact detail, sound and how it would look, for the next 6 seconds.

I'm wondering if this event is common. Has anyone else had this happen and how often is it that people have this occur in society? Is there any study that has ever addressed this thing occuring?

  • Why are the creators of anime so obsessed with horrible endings?

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, Planet of the Beast King..the list goes on and it's almost like anime CAN'T have an ending without at least one of the main couple in it dieing or the main character dieing. Is this a social norm in Japan or what? It seems like no anime can have a good ending and I've been watching anime for a long while. If the main characters aren't dead within the last 10 minutes I just seem to wait for the bullet and I'm rarely wrong.

  • Would a book on the 2011 GRE in Psychology still be effective in taking the 2012 GRE?

I'm wanting to start preparing early for this year's GRE in August, but I don't know much about the GRE at the minute and I'm a bit curious on how much it actually changes with each year's test. Would a book effective in reviewing for the 2011 GRE in Psychology still be effective in preparing me for this years GRE?

  • Is it safe to turn on my laptop?

I had my mouse connected to the usb port on my laptop. Well, I dropped my laptop and it broke off. I got the pieces out of the mouse's connection piece. But I'm not sure if it's safe to turn on and use my laptop with that usb port like that. Is it safe to turn it on before sending it to get fixed?
