I bought two in Wal-mart last summer. I placed each plant (still in its pot) in a deep container--the top to a jar of instant coffee is fine. When I would go outside, I'd put them on my back steps and bring them in at night. When it started getting cold, I put the plants on the window sill which gets the most light. A plant light is a very good source, too. I keep them watered daily. If the soil dries out, they die. During winter, they don't need to eat and generally rest. My window sill isn't very warm and they need a cooler temperature during the colder months. Never give a carnivorous plant any type of meat; this will cause it to rot. Let the plant catch insects naturally. Sometimes, a venus flytrap will produce tiny white flowers which have teeny seeds:

They have the healthiest plants I've found anywhere. My favorite flytrap is the Akai Ryu or Red Dragon which turns completely red in full sun. You will also find care sheets on this site that will explaine to you in simple English the proper way to care for your plant. The last time I looked, they were having a flytrap combo sale.

I actually had one years ago and it did great in my plant window. Though I don't actually remember how to care for it. But here's a website with the care instructions:

I had one years ago and loved it.

They only 'drink' distilled water, tap water will kill it. That is how mine died - my new wife watered it with tap water. DOA

Drying out will also kill it - it is a bog plant and needs to be wet.

It does not need to catch insects to survive. Mine never did and was always inside for years.

Other than that it was a very easy plant to have.
