If you call the top 3% of American Elite not giving a thought about the bottom majority, then yes,it is a conspiracy. The conspiracy is obvious.Corporations which are above the law,and above the government need low paid workers, their unbridled greed requires a huge profit that increasingly gets larger.A domestic cattle like workforce insures that worker uprisings will not cause disruptions due to benefit reductions.Corporations give huge contributions to Colleges, their economic greedy philosophies are never questioned by curriculum taught.Public schools are underfunded and increasingly under educating.Television and video games are brain detractors. The news shows are commercial and sensationalized.Important issues are given small sound bites.Corporations own the news media also. The conspiracy runs deep, and it is now on the verge of swallowing the whole world

Yes and no.
For a satirical statement, on how uneducated Americans are multiplying at a faster rate and overpopulating the country, go rent the movie "Idiocracy" with Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph.
Seriously, although the mainstream media plays to the lowest common denominator; the advent of independent media, access and production is also creating generations of people able to manage and govern their own affairs instead of relying on the media and government.
So while problems are getting worse in terms of government bureaucracy that promotes dependence; more solutions and resources are being organized directly among the people, through their own efforts, organizations and ideas, due in part to the greater use of technology and the internet to communicate globally.
Things are getting worse, and getting better at the same time.

Don't laugh. Think about all the mind numbing, idiotic programming on television. Think about the kind of garbage they are shoveling as news.
This isn't a new tactic. The Christian church did this throughout its history. They loved it when the majority of their parishioners couldn't read or write, they were easier to control.
Thinking takes work and practice. How many people do you know that intentionally avoid thinking over topics and just buy into what they are told because, "That makes sense to me?"
Only this time it isn't the church, but big business that is the major conspirator. The have even admitted at times that TV programming is nothing more than a venue to take you from commercial to commercial.
They tell you what to eat, what to wear, how you should look, what you should drive, and who is to blame.

A large body of research has found that the average intelligence of American citizens has a trend to increase with time. This is in spite of all the stupid media that's shown and whatnot. A great number of books have explored the possible connection between increasingly stupid entertainment with increasingly intelligent citizens. Unfortunately I can't remember the names of said books. So what I'm saying is that the "dumbing down" is merely an illusion.

This ia a very classical conspiracy that has been practiced and its currently been practiced in most countries. I think that Americans have been dumbed down for quite a long time, I mean look who's sleeping in the White House.

Conspiracy or symptom of consumerism out of control, what does it matter? The important thing is to acknowledge that it is happening, the reason isn't necessary to stop it. I don't recall anyone being kept out of a library by force in many years. I don't recall any government studies recommending watching televison for hours either. The masses have volunteered to be stupid or at least are passively complicit.

No, but the presumption that watching TV and participating in shared cultural activities (voting for American Idol, dancing to the same steps at the club) indicates dumbness; is very naive.
I'd say that you came up with the dumbness conspiracy while watching made for scifi channel movies, but I know your just rehashing the writing 101 BS that you got from your community college wanna-be professor.

This is a fairly broad statement with generalizations.
While the over-all U.S. population is seemingly dumbing down, our colleges are still sought after and the U.S. still possess some of the brightest minds.
The U.S. has had a trouble escaping self-centeredness and easy answers. Are we not indepth critical thinking yet proned to trivial pursuits? Do we study one subject without relating it to other subjects? Personally, I don't think Americans are stupid. I think we are lazy and want easy solutions that require little thinking.

In order to know the future you must remember and know history. Once Rome was in its decline the people were given pleasing distractions, the gladiators and Free bread. we have wrestling, football and tax breaks.
Ask a guy or girl (18 -35 years of age) who his/her favorite actor, actress, singer, and athlete is and they will give you so many facts and answer it will hurt your head. then ask who his/her county commissioner is, who is their Governor, president, senator, stale legislator and/or congressman? That person 9 out of 10 times will look at you like you are crazy and not know 25% of those answers.
it not conspiracy, if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck; do you need to hear the quack???. and if you do what do you think when it finally quacks.....????

Yes, I believe so. Dumb them down so they can be controlled even easier.
A wise man told me that in the future of this country teachers will be paid based on the grades of their students. So what teachers will do is just pass their students to get the money. Again this is coming from a wise man
