Why as Christians do we sometimes feel that God is always late?
I listened to James Dobson the other morning and he was discussing the story of Lazarus and how his sisters had sent word to Jesus that their brother was sick. Jesus didn't arrive until 4 days after Lazarus had died - I know what Mr. Dobson said but would like to hear what other Christians have to say. I don't mind unbelievers answering as long as you give an answer that doesn't tell me that it didn't happened or there was no Christ or there is no God - that horse has been beat to death so unless you can offer something else please leave this question to those of us who do believe. Thank you.

There was a specific reason JESUS waited. The prophecies about the MESSIAH were clear in what HE would do when HE came to earth, and one of them was raise the dead back to life. and yes HE did do this, but according to pharrasical laws a person was not officially dead till 3 days had passed. and since the other miracles were not good enough for them to know HE was the MESSIAH JESUS waited to prove to them who HE was. Notice that after Lazarus was raised to live again they went to plot JESUS death. because HE proved to them on thier terms and they rejected HIM.

The case of Lazarus was unusual because Christ needed to make a point!
But you are right in your statement. This does happen! The reason is as Paul stated that Christians must come to the point where they feel that they have been condemned to death.
This is so that they no longer depend on their own power but on God's. Thus Paul stated when I am weak I am strong.

Well, I really don't fall inot the believe category, but I can answer with a modicum of respect for other peoples beliefs.
I can understand your question and would have to say it is because we as a race are extremely selfish and impatient. We want what we want when we want it. And if someone else (even God) can't meet our schedule then they (or he) are late. We don't try to look at it from the other's perspective and determine if that other person had something already planned. And in the case of God, how could we, as humans even think to understand what he might want or might have planned.
I would basically take this to mean that (for those who believe) it is certainly a good idea to pray and ask for help, but God will do what is part of HIS plan, not yours.

Why do you think that God is ever late? I don't believe he is ever late. In fact, if we submit ourselves to Him, and His will, we are the perfect plan - His plan for our lives.
We're humans, and like to have things done instantly. Instant coffee, instant cereal, noodles, and what not. But God's pace is different from ours. He has a plan for our lives, and does not do as we desire, pray for, or dictate.
Also, was not God immensely glorified when Lazarus was brought back from the dead? Was not the joy much more manifold and unbelievably more when what people assumed to be a four-day old dead stinking corpse was brought to life?

well, since they traveled by foot in those days, He could have been any distance away... and He also had his ministry.... it isnt like they could quick voicecall his cell and he could hop the nearest bus to get there.
God isnt ever late... His timing is not our timing. consider that Sarah and Abraham didnt have Isaac until they were well into their 90's.... now that is a long wait for something!
When it all comes down to it.... it isnt all about 'us' (as in all about Mary and Martha and Lazarus) but it is all about God and Jesus... and our focus needs to be on what God has planned... and not on our wants of the moment. Is it hard to wait on the Lord? sometimes, excruciatingly hard to wait! is it worth the wait tho? absolutely

Jesus didn't have to rush back - he could finish what He was doing because - even rushing would be pointless - no airplanes in that time ; )
Lazarus was supposed to die.... this was part of God's plan. look how things would be without that miracle.
we seem to espect God to work on our time, however that's not always the case. God's time is not like our own - unfirtunately :)
God bless & keep you!

It was done so that the Glory of God would be manifested so that they who saw it would believe and know that He was God in the flesh. This is a simple explanation and I will help more if you want it. Remember that the news of what happened spread to many many other places. Also there were many witnesses to what happened also.

Faith demands immediate action on God's time schedule.
Few people do. So, frustration enters.
Even the first lines of "Julius Caesar" has Caesar declaring the 'tide of human events has to be caught at just the right moment".

God is never late. He sometimes answers at a time that we think is late, but his ulterior motive to answer in such a way and at such a time so that there is NO DOUBT that it is Him.
