If moving, is it better to just switch to Dish Network or keep directv?
We are getting a new house on the same property we live on now. Currently we have directv satellite tv in two rooms, which was installed in 2003. Would it be better to upgrade equipment and change companies or should we just keep our current service?
Can I cancel Directv and become a new customer in a month or so and get my equipment upgraded?

No you cannot cancel service and become a new costumer however you can cancel your service and obtain service in someone elses name like your spouse or something. There are things to consider when such as local channels. If you get your locals through directv then chances are dish wont offer locals for that area. They might but in most cases only one of the providers offer locals in the same area Compare channel lineups see if dish offers what you want for about the same price as you were paying for Directv I have done the switch for DTV to Dishnetwork. I got behind on my directv bill and got shut off so went to dish network and got 4 room setup with DVR in 2 rooms they do it different then directv though directv you have a box for each room dish network gives you one box for 2 rooms and 2 remotes for each box they are dual tuner boxes kind of cool actually One of the downsides to dish is you lease your equipment where as directv after a year of service you own your equipment atleast thats the way they did things when i was a customer. Dish bills a month in advance as well. you pay 50 dollars for install and then it is credited to your first bill making the install free in the end but your first bill will be for 2 months of service minus the installation fee that was creditted to your account The equipment lease rental fee is free as long as all of your recievers are constantly connected to a phone line otherwise a 5 or 10 dollar monthly fee per reciever i think its 5/reciver but not sure i dont have my bill handy . The programming is pretty good though and the DVR works great
to awnser your question though as far as saving money initially it would be cheaper to switch to dish than to pay directv for equipment upgrade but your dish bill for an equivalent package will be slightly more then directv.
PS a credit card is needed to get dish network service basically for credit assurance they will not bill the card unless you disrupt your service and dont return your equipment within 15 days. They also run a credit check now but must not be to thurough as i got service and my credit isnt all that well off
Hopefully the information i have given you will help you in making your decision Good Luck

On Thursday an approximate launch time for Direct 10 was scheduled. It will be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan by International Launch Services using a Proton Rocket with a Breeze M upper Stage. The date is set for June. The announcement says that this will specifically add to the expansion of HDTV offerings.
Keep Directv! But get a new sat dish.
UPDATE: perhaps your spouse can!! or with a maiden name??

Depends upon how happy you are with your current provider. If you are not in a contract term with them I would switch and see how the competition is plus they will give you all kinds of deals as a new customer. Good luck.

Keep DirecTV, keep it for the good love of God, don't change to dish network.
