Why do guys pretend to be who there really not?

People (not just guys) tend to think that if they are themselves they will be rejected.. Those people are insecure and stupid.. They think that by winning the others over, it'll be too late for rejection once the truth surfaces.... Personally, I hate that.. If you don't like me for me, screw you... AND, I don't like other people making my decisions for me.. I will decide if I like you for you or not... Don't lie because I'll end up hating you... I cut of a guy 2 weeks ago for that crap...

Because they are afraid that you wont like the real them, that the real them is too dull, boring, much of a jerk and so on so they lie to make you like them as well as see what you really like. Then again though some guys just like the pity and think that you'll have sex with them if you feel bad enough for them sorry to hear about this. Just remember though there are some guys that dont do this and that are comfortable in their own skin to tell the truth.

Usually with guys the whole "pretend to be someone else" thing is just to get inside girls underwear. There could be exceptions,, where a guy is really insecure and needs a story because his own life is so boring, but most of the time it's really just to get sex.

Please do not generalize - I had the same experience with some women.

People do it for two reasons:

1. They think they are not interesting enough and make up stories, in which case I think they need professional help, because this is an unhealthily lack of self confidence and of judgment (thinking they get away with lies)

2. They have e genuine defect and need help, because hey are compulsive liars

I guess he wanted you to like him and feel sorry for him. Guys don't know the truth goes a long way. They need to start telling it

Because guys (although we say otherwise)...have their own insecurities and feel that our own situation sucks and makes us seem unattractive, so if I lie or embellish my current situation you may like me more...its stupid but its true

I would never lie about myself. Do you know that if you lie to a person, you're also lieing to yourself.

they want you to like them. they probably have pathetic lives. so they make up a story

Same reason women wear make-up and dye their hair and pretent to be prettier than they really are.... it gets results.
