Will everyone over-react to the Virginia Tech shooting?

It's my guess that people are going to try to politicize this issue by bringing up gun control and violence in our society in general. After the grieving period is over the politicians are going to get on the bandwagon and start looking for the "culprit" and figure out exactly what went wrong to put the blame on someone or something.

Isn't it understandable that this is almost impossible to prevent in our society? How do you prevent someone from having a "breakdown" and doing something like this? Hate to say it but sh** happens and there wasn't a whole lot we can do as a society can do except brace for the next time something like this happens.

Amen, I agree it is going to be used for the 2008 Presidential Election. It will take some peoples mind away from the war, and will help Republicans in the long run. I also agree it is impossible to prevent this type of thing from happening. If guns would have been baned, the killer would have used something else, a bomb, knife, anything really. He is the only one to blame here, he was messed up in the head and needed help, just no one around him noticed. That is the only prevention I could think of, is if someone close to him would have noticed he was off his rocker and made him go to counseling.

Thankyou for many popular us in prayer. the main we are in a position to do for friends and familys of those poor scholar sufferers is prayer. Thankyou for this prayer. Now there is investigations and to be taught of who this person became into to reason so poor a tragedy. i think of all of us have intense doubts approximately how the guy who already killed 2 human beings became into allowed to proceed to be on campus and kill 33 pupils in yet another construction bulding 2hours later. i'm outraged. A warning had to be further to each lecture room that a intense threat to the protection of the pupils. The professionals say oh nicely the campus has a superb type of scholars comming and stepping into and out all day long how can we be answerable for absolutely everyone.? perhaps a warning for the pupils and instructors? The police concept oh nicely it incredibly is in ordinary terms those 2 poor ineffective human beings we could see who they are linked with right here on campus? meanwhile the shooter became into having a cup of espresso on the scholar center cafeteria and somebody would desire to have warned the entire campus. that they had 2 hours to close down the campus and get the little ones in there dorms the place thy can lock themselves in till the police understand the killer. to discover the killer,... rather they only lollygag around the only little room the place the 1st killing surpassed off no longer even a concept the guy became into in all danger having a cup of espresso in the scholar center cafeteria. i'm sorry for the ineptitude of authoritys to think of previous what's already there. i'm sorry that prayer is the main we are in a position to do for the sufferers friends and kinfolk. In Columbine the cops have been indecisive approximately what to do next so as that they stood around outdoors the construction for 2 hours jointly as the killing went on interior. right here the cops stood around 2 corpses for 2hours no longer a concept some killer sitting precise there of their midst having a cup of cofee.

i'm looking at the shooting and saying, great another stupid kid losing his mind. Well seriously it's not games or movies for christ-sake. It's the way he grew up, it was caused probably by emotions or troubles with family, cripe the kid was a loner, i've been there too ( V-tech) but in his shoes almost, i would never shoot anyone for i hate guns. But come on it's old, these kids need ot grow up and face the facts that no matter what you do, it's never gonna get better. nothing ever changes things if you decide to shoot-up a school. Ever since colombine these kids have thought of them as Gods, but htey are not. a true god, or idol is someoe who shows good in his life, and displays it to other people. Not someone who shoots-up a school just because they were being teased and picked-on, i've been picked-on i grew up alot smarter and stronger, only because i didn't let my weakness get the best of me or my fear. People like them think the only way to solve a problem is to end it forever, but it's not going to stop, no matter what you do, or believe it will never end, pain is endless and we have to live with it till the end of times. suffering is something that we all must live with, it's a part of life, enforcing death on people just because they do not like you is never gonna solve anything. without hate we do not have love, without life we do not have death, but shooting people is just honorless, and shows no loyalty to God or anyone. in my opinion i am ashamed of them, i give them no respect or honor. I will them ot suffer for their crimes, even for that kid who shot-up V-tech. I hope he understands what it is he did, and lives to regret.

I have already heard conservatives blaming liberals and democrats for this tragedy. I have also seen a few remarks on YA that suggest violence against Koreans. The truth is simple. It was an individual wacko who was going to take as many people out as he could before he ended his own life. We can't go around blaming others for this wacko's actions.

Who is over reacting? Make me leader of the free world, Now would this be over reacting?

    Murder:

murder is punishable by death, at that moment, with out a trial, just shoot the BIT@H on the spot and drag the body through the town, and then shoot all his family, including his dog. and then anyone that looks like him, and last but not least nuke his country, maybe we could get it across to some of these low, life, scum, sucking pieces of SH#/T that we will not put up with anymore!

    Leader of the FREE world!

I think that we can prepare ourselves for it mentally , and be taught to jump and fight the gunman, saving lives, instead of running, someone trying to get behind him, he could have done the same with another weapon, just not as quickly. I think that couseling follow up should have been done as he was obviously troubled enough to be sent there to start with. If we have someone amongst us, who wont talk to us, ever, then we should reach out more to that person, as a group and watch that person to see if they ever change. We should teach our kids to reach out to those hurting and troubled.

I don't think you could POSSIBLY over react to something like this. Good Lord. Something DOES need to be done, whether you think it goes too far the other way.....is irrelevant. Just because you think it's almost impossible to prevent...does that mean that we should stand idly by and do nothing saying, "oh well, what's the point? It's going to happen regardless." That just seems ignorant to me.

Yes they were blaming Bush for this as soon as the story broke. It gets on my nerves. Instead of expressing compassion for the victims and honoring their memories, they just want to point fingers. it's sickening. Honestly, this kid was so messed up, he would have found a gun, gun control or not.

    Yep.

It has already started; the Pres. ain't grieving with the students of VU out of concern; it's a photo-op for him and for his party.

Also, it's going to be interesting to see just how much hubbub the media will manufacturer over the shootings.

Sadly, my cousin died at the hands of a Korean a few years ago. We do not judge people just because of one crime. The Korean's in general in our neighborhood have been very nice and helpful in our old age.
