recovery and rehabilitation from a massive stroke?

My 46 yr. old husband suffered a massive stroke 2 weeks ago; he's now in a rehab facility. He is paralyzed on the right side, can not speak, has trouble with eating (sometimes has a feeding tube). Has anyone gone through or knows of someone who has had this situation and if so, what was the prognosis? This is all so overwhelming, but with God's help I know we will get through this. Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions.

This article which I have searched out for you will help you out:

Approximately 700,000 new or recurrent cases of stroke occur annually in the United States with about 28% of cases occurring in patients under the age of 65. Stroke is a leading cause of disability among the nearly 5 million stroke survivors in the United States. The estimated cost of care and earnings lost in 2003 was about $51 billion.

Despite improvements in emergency treatments for stroke, many stroke survivors are left with functional problems. It has been estimated that approximately 30% of stroke survivors require some assistance in activities of daily living and about 20% require assistance with mobility

Comprehensive stroke rehabilitation may improve functional abilities of stroke survivors and also decrease long-term patient care costs. Approximately 80% of stroke victims may benefit from inpatient or outpatient stroke rehabilitation programs.

My heart is going out to you and your household. My father merely surpassed faraway from a huge heart attack unfortunatley there develop into only 5% mind function and we had to tug him off existence help. on your husband to be in rehab immediately away skill they can artwork with what he has left of his mind function and retrain his mind to artwork harder at gaining knowledge of the thanks to do issues all yet all over again. it would want to take about a 12 months reckoning on the affected man or woman and the quantity of the damages. He can with dissimilar exertions stay a common existence back. merely take it in some unspecified time sooner or later at a time and continuously be the help he needs cheering him on and inspiring him all the way. discover out precisely what the percentage of damage is each minute that he develop into without oxygen for the time of his stroke is 10% mind function loss. those with as low as 30% mind function stay truly time-honored lives afterwards. The mind is a helpful element. do not lose wish he's the following and alive and has some function be satisfied about a minimum of that a lot perfect now. Tommorrow is more frustrating for him than it really is for you.

was the stroke due to a bleed or a clot? the former is often severe but with work and patience a person can recover most if not all function. if the latter, however, brain tissue has died, and cannot be replaced. the goal in that instance, is simply to maintain what function he still has.

I experienced this with my mom and with the person i work with now. Rehab and physical therapy can help lots. The more aggressive the rehab the better the results..usually.Also if you can afford it...if there is a personal trainer there that works with stoke patients...they can help alot too.Sometimes recovery can take sometime.

Yes, actually we have been through this now twice with my aunt and now my uncle. Both took about 2 months to regain lucid speech, about 4 months for memory confusion to normalize, and about a year to get back to functioning on their own.
