I don't know if I have OCD or not but PLEASE HELP ME!!?

Ever since I was a Freshmen in High School I have payed alot of interest in all types of music. The lyrics, the beat, the tone, etc. But for the last 3 years I have also a great interest in counting syllables......Let me explain: If a song's lyrics go "I dont want to be a fool, so I go to school"-----12 syllables right? So what I will do then when I'm bored or sitting around is, starting with the thumb, count or associate the syllables with my fingers, mostly just my right hand. (Like I'm playing a imaginary piano, however I just go in a back and forth motion starting at the thumb and ending the last syllable back at the thumb) I cannot even tell if I'm doing it or not but I catch myself every now and then.....CONSTANTLY!!! Is there a way to stop it or a way to get it out of my system? And no I don't blast I-pod in my ear all day long, It's just whatever song is stuck in my head...Anything please help!!

Obsession with counting things is a classic symptom of OCD. Do you feel really, really anxious if you don't do your little counting ritual? Do you feel creepily relieved and a little embarrassed after the counting? Is it starting to interfere with your day? If so, you probably have OCD

Good news....yes there are meds that can help you with this, and the drugs are pretty safe and most people don't have much in the way of side effects. Bad news....these treatments are prescription only. You would need to see the psychiatrist to get them. Good luck.

Oh my gosh, I do the same thing except I use my right and left foot and the syllable has to end on the foot i started on or I have to sing the song until it does. I don't know if it is OCD or just the inability to relax. I have anxiety all the time and worry all the time but other than that no rituals or anything.

Why would you stop it? You have the ability to listen in to tone and beat (something an average listener doesnt notice contiously) so now you have a subcontious ability to analyze lyrical structure. Consider a career in music, you would do well.

I am afraid that i don't have a solution but I have a similar habit. I have to "Write" out words with an imaginary pen and I know how it feels especially when you don't know how to spell a certain word and it just gnaws at you until you can't stand it.
