Do manual trannys make your car worth less?
I've heard that when you have a manual transmission, it drops the value a little bit in a car. Is it true that automatics hold their value better?

To answer your Question , Yes it cost less and the resale is not that good , I retired from Ford Atlanta assembly plant , And for the last 15-20 years we did not build any Manual at all , Now back when the SHO came along they were all manual , I could not believe that there were no automatic, However the next model change we began to put automatic in them . So you see the older generation don,t won,t manuals , You will find it out when you get older good luck and keep shifting.

yes/no. If you have a performance based car, then an automatic will make it worth less. If you have an economy car, then an auto will make it worth more.... but for performance cars, say it has a 5 speed manual, but a 6 speed manual was an option, then the 5 speed is going to drop the value to automatic levels.

It really depends on the car. many cars like performance cars a stick is worth more. I don't see too many cause like that any more though. Even people that buy ferrari's are asking for automatics. Any one who has driven in La or Nyc will understand why. Most cars however a automatic is worth more because millions of people don't know how to drive a stick. It also costs anywhere fro 500-1200 for a automatic option when the car is new.

Generally automatics tend to have higher value, but it depends on the buyer. Some people are only looking for a manual shift.

the price difference is so insignificant on most cars that it doesn't really matter.... however on some cars, such as the 240sx or miata, most people look for cars with manual transmissions, and will pass up the automatics because they make the car less fun to drive and harder to perform JDM engine swaps on.

regardless of in case you acquire the automobile for loose, switching over the tranny might want to fee more advantageous than the automobile might want to finally be well worth. Too many stuff to regulate out and the linkage is per chance the most inexpensive section.
