Do you know who said this?

"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

How have we gotten so far from what the founding fathers of our contry intended? Do we really want to continue down the road of moral decay?

James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement:

"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

    Joe D:

Only one religion acknowledges the 10 Commandments?

    BWA-hah-hah-hah!

You really believe that? From the Quran:

"O Moses! I have chosen thee above (other) men, by the mission I (have given thee) and the words I (have spoken to thee): take then the (revelation) which I give thee, and be of those who give thanks." 007.145 And We ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): "Take and hold these with firmness, and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts: soon shall I show you the homes of the wicked."

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all acknowledge the 10 Commandments. Surely you knew that you were totally ignorant of that, right?

I have seen this attributed to James Madison, but have not done the research needed to confirm or deny its validity.

Yes, thankfully we have good Christian leaders like George W. Bush and Ted Haggard to lead us from moral decay.

They also had "freedom of religion" in the bill of rights.....

Only one religion follows the ten commandments, and not even then do all christians listen to them.

    To Deke, nice answer. lol

Our Founding fathers were mostly Deists. They didn't believe in the god of the bible or his commandments.
