I need to fix it. my lawn is shaggy and i need to fix this soon. does it sound like the magnitto went bad? or just that from vibration it jiggled lose a bit and the gap is off. if that is the case, how much of a gap do i need for model 124702? before it died on me it was spitting and sputtering as if it wasn't gettin proper spark or bad gas. it just won't start period! it doesn't do nothing when you try to turn it on. I know it has good gas, i put it in. this died on me the end of last year, right before winter hit. if you can please help me fix it i would be appreaciative!!! thanks!! and if you need more information, let me know

A couple of things to consider here:
did you leave gas in it after setting it up for the winter? if so you may have some gunk in it from old gas. Try some fuel injector cleaner fluid in your gas tank after you empty the gas tank and refill it with fresh gas.
secondly, you might need to look at your air filter. they get pretty clogged over a season of use. Its better to just replace it with a new one each year anyway even though you can probably scrape the junk off of yours and get by.
thirdly, make sure your spark plug wire is on tight. Sometimes you have to take it off and clean it off(rust) and take a pair of pliers and bend it in so you have to force it back on the plug real hard. This helps make it stay on better.
If you have one of those kind of mowers with the little bulb you push three times before you start it, then do that, pull the string and if it starts then immediately push the bulb again to feed more fuel injector fuel/gas to clean out things.
Your plug is probably ok but they are cheap to replace also at your local hardware or Wal-mart. Just be sure to take your old with you to match it up.
If you still have problems then email me. I do have one other thing I sometimes have to do.
Good luck.

Did it start the spit and sputter before or after you hit the large rock?
Sounds like either water in the gas, plugged fuel filter or a semi sheared timing key, bad speark plug, oxidized spark plug or coil cap or even a blown head gasket...if all these fail, run out and get another mower, it's often cheaper than having it fixed these days.

To adjust the gap in the magneto. Just loosen the screws, place the flywheel where the magnets meet the magneto. Place a business card between flywheel & mag, tighten screws.
It could be a partially sheered key in the flywheel too.
Or, you may just need a spark plug.
Another thing, If your muffler is clogged, it will not start either.
Good luck!

I once picked a snapper off the (trash) lower with a quart of airborne dirt and dust dumped into the combustion chamber (likely from the spark plug hollow) and a huge chew of aluminum block smashed off the area, so dirty oil is distinctly tame when compared with what can _really_ take position...develop into nonetheless nicely worth $50 in scrap so who's complaining. commonly "no longer starting up after an hour of operating positive" ability a carburetor gas delivery mission; if the oil element is okay (no longer overfilled) then dirty oil shouldn't kill an engine till it really is "thick black sludge" type of dirty. An overfilled engine might want to reason frothing and grab the engine.
