Can someone give me some stretching advice or techniques?

This is really hard to explain, because I do stretching exercises every day at my gym after my work out. You really should look at a chart with pictures and descriptions of the proper way to stretch.
Maybe you could check out a library book on the subject or buy a video to watch.

Contrary to popular belief, it's better not to stretch until after you do a little activity. Try a brisk walk before stretching so your muscles are warmed up and your blood is pumping. You're more likely to hurt yourself or over-stretch if your muscles aren't warmed up. Thus, you'll get a better and more productive stretch if you are warmed up.
