Have 1956 ranch with an inside pocket door ,it drags on the floor high tile can i adjust it?

The folks that lived here before me put ceramic tile on the hall floor and now tha door drags duh...I am very home maintenance oriented but I cannot figure how to get the door out to cut it....My cabnet installer looked at it and said yup you got a problem you have to rip the dry wall off the hall side to get at the door to ( i need to cut off or adjust it up 1/8 to1/4 inch ) I cannot beleive that there is no adjustment or that to get the door out you have to rip the wall apart but I cannot figure it out its like an IQ test I am blowing... Help...thanks Lenny

There is often an adjustment on the rollers that the door hangs on. Try looking inside the top at the roller mechanism. Is there a slanted notched hole or slot on the mechanism between the roller and the door below? Is there a bolt head on either side of this mechanism? Turning that bolt will raise or lower the door as the bolt moves up and down that notched slot. It will also tilt the door, so you'll have to do this on both the front and back rollers. You may need to remove a piece of trim along side the track to get to this, or you might be able to reach it with a slim flat wrench. It depends on how much space you have to work in.

Its sounds like an hollow core door with metal style rollers. When the door was installed they were supose to have one side of the head trim removeable with ease. If you have door stoptry to remove that any swingthe door out and cut. If the door can not be removed with out major destruction a saw zal with a fine blade. There is an attachmet you can get to off set the blade of the ssaw zal for abot $50. I found mine in a HVAC supply haouse. It is used to make flush cuts, or use an 12" blade and flex it level.Use a 1x3 an place it on the floor as a guide and use the saw zal and cut the bottom of the door. When you get near the jam try to guide the blade of just get the jam and fill the cut mark in with filler

There are usually adjustments on the top wheels and along with that there is a special wrench needed to adjust, you may be able to find a wrench at a local hdwr. store out of an open box, if not you may need to take some trim out yo adjust. If there are no adustments you have 2 options, rent a flush cutting skill saw to remove some material and finish with a hand saw, or remove some trim pop the door out and trim it with a regular skill saw.

Your cabinet builder is wrong, you take all of the casing and the piece around the opening off around the door when its retracked into its pocket then you can lift the door off its track, pull it out, and adjust the parts mounted on the door that ride the track then slide the door back in to the pocket and lift the door back on to the track using handle from a broom as a leverage devise.( this is one way to do it depending on the type of door that was installed, there are other ways depending upon the door.) Good Luck.
