At&T Global and the Spawar cards , you choose how many minutes to put on the card. I think they were like about 4 cents per min. Check Google for the site, I can't remember it.

My son was told he could not use his cell phonefrom there due to security reasons.

Good luck & a big Thank You to your son.

    I was in iraq 2004-2005

almost every base or FOB has an MWR building or tent---

he can get on a computer for free and IM you

from most ,he can call for free

they also have DSN lines---military lines he can call from his unit with---have him check with his NCO"S to see about that

otherwise---the PX has cheaper phone cards

and,yes they can get what are called SPAWARE from the Internet cafes on post

best of luck to him,and may he make it back home

when my hubby was deployed i went to www.phonecards.com. on that site you choose which country to call and from where and it gives you the rate. it is MUCH cheaper than buying a phonecard from the store, even if it says international you barely get half of the minutes it says you do. if your son has a cell phone he would need to buy minutes from the iraqis which can be rather expensive, so it would be better if you were to buy the calling card and call him because he does not get charged for incoming calls. either way, the website i gave you is awesome!

The cheapest ones he can use are the ones the MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) gives out from time to time.

AT&T also has been known to hand out free long distance cards to soldiers.

If you have to purchase them, shop around on the web as suggested by the previous poster.
