Is it easy to install a new head unit on a 1999 Ford Contour?

I am about to buy a new CD head unit for my car and I don’t know if I should try to install it by myself or if I should pay the pros to do for me and spend an extra $40-$60. I know I will need to attain the correct harnesses and I will need to get some electrical supplies to cut and connect the wires. Should I attempt it? I've seen it done numerous of times but never had did it by myself. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a new head unit and then go ahead and screw it by doing something stupid like crossing the wires or something. Plus I want it to look good. What do you think?

The first thing you need to do is take the factory radio out and take a look at what type of harness you will need. There are two types for this vehicle.

    NEVER CUT THE FACTORY WIRES!!

If both plugs are similar in size and shape, one gray and one black, this is a non premium sound system. Best kits part number for this is BHA1770.

If one plug is flat and gray, and the other is a small black square, this is the premium sound system. The part number for that set of plugs is BHA5511.

fords are usually very easy. if you look at your radio on the sides there should be 4 small holes that look like you could put a paperclip in. go to any store like auto zone or murrays and tell them you need a ford radio removal tool/kit. it should be around $5 and will have 2 U shaped pieces of metal. you put 1 in each side and push it in untill the radio unlocks and then put it right out.

verify motor mounts. also, sparkling your IDLE AIR administration VALVE. it ought to reason a bounce in drivetrain if dirty and impacts gas mileage and potential. in case you mandatory converters, then the IAC is per chance why. even as it really is dirty, it makes the engine run too wealthy, and wears the insides of exhuast structures out ahead. you may require a trans fluid substitute. e-mail me back for instructions on the thanks to attempt this the superb way!
