Iraq Military Personnel have just been restricted from using the Internet, Do you think this is fair to them?

Paul Harvey Just announced that Service personell in Iraq will no longer allowed to use the Internet for any reason, because they say this ties up the internet use for military use too much. This sounds like a load of crap. Do any of you parents or friends think this is a good thing to do to them. Many of them use the internet to tell their parents that they are ok and still alive. I am one of those parents, curious if anyone else has a problem with this.

I believe it is not an "internet" ban.. .but a ban from using myspace and youtube.

In WWII there was a saying plastered all over ... "Loose Lips Sink Ships" It was a catchy reminder that if we're not really careful with what we say, what we pass on... ("We" meaning military personnel as well as their families and friends) then we're putting our troops in danger. It could be actual physical danger, or it could be dangerous to morale for certain information to be shared.

Today, there is OPERATIONAL SECURITY (OPSEC)... You'll frequently see we military folks/parents reminding people to not give specific information about troop movements, available equipment, and other information that might be used against them. The motto now is, "A KIA is just a keystroke away"... We should all take it seriously, whether we agree with the war effort or not.

I say its not only unfair, its probably not legal as well, unless the restriction against using government property for personal use comes into play.

During any of the conflicts, soldiers, airman and naval personnel have been guaranteed contact with home. Only the contact has to be of the censurable form: normally paper mail that can be screened and important or vital essential elements of essential information concerning troop placement, numbers, or other military important items that aren't necessarily secrets, but when put together can reveal a picture of whats going on.

with the Internet you don't have operations security, with it being almost virtually impossible to scan and read all the electronic media to insure operation security. true, it also limits operation honesty and prevent the truly free interchange of information as well. unfortunately, the military is not a information service: its an operational arm of our government.

unfair or not, the US military does have the right to restrict access, If its their equipment and if its done on the military time.

however, they have no legal right at all if its the mans personal equipment and the soldier uses the local (let say for what passes for internet service in iraq) wireless network to connect up. unfortunately, they could just comfiscate the eqquippment in the interest of national security. since all thats required usally is a cell phone now for internet access, that pretty hard to do.

the subject isn't lots that the media is incorrect, as that the media isn't thorough of their coverage. that's extra glamorous to speak with regard to the squaddies doing foot patrols and setting up impromptu defenses on rooftops interior the city factors. that's not so glamorous to speak with regard to the Sr. NCO's lounging around Anaconda, getting fat and cheating on their better halves for a year. progression is stressful to define interior the country as an entire. What serves as progression interior the some distance north would not relate to what's happening interior the some distance south or out west. there are assorted inner politics, conflicts and ability conflicts between the different cultures and sub-cultures which Coalition presence overshadows. the actual attempt would be whilst or if the US pulls out thoroughly. From my adventure, i will inform you that the Kurds save their areas preserve and quiet. They take various delight in that and that they save the two their cultural and political integrity. we've little or no presence in that area, and maximum of what we've is help purposes, no longer secure practices. we could leave today and that they might run issues in simple terms the comparable devoid persons.

I just wanted to let you know that i think i've been having the same problem. My boyfriend is over in Iraq right now, stationed at Camp Stryker. He has his own laptop, and has been emailing me almost every day. Except i have no gotten an email from him since Last Friday, May 11th, 2007. I'am not overly concerned, because im sure he is fine, just busy doing army duties. But once i read what you wrote, i hope to god that he will be able to use his email. So i know he is okay. He is supposed to be going out to Sector soon..and i want him to be able to write me and tell me when! but i hope all goes well, and i''ll hear from him soon!

This is not a surprise. They are going to try and keep every bit of information about Iraq controlled and this is another leak when you put in to that perspective. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with the bogging down of the server. It is unfortunate that more people can not see past the very display of things like this and addthem all together to see the noose they trying to tie on the throats of any and all reporting, news, pictures, information and speech that sways the minds of americans from the thoughts of George W. Bush.

I did not know this until now, and I for one am FVCKING FURIOUS, I can understand keeping the media out but the parent's, HELL NO, that's just another fvcking recipe for disaster, and I am speaking from experience, if this is the truth then I hope for the sake of the military's future that they will allow our loved ones extra phone call's and I hope that they start letting us family's phone our children on their cell phones, because up until now they have consistently blocked us from calling personal cell phones in Iraq, man this $hit is never ending.....

Yes, that would be bad for morale because the only reality they then know is that war torn place.

It's good for them to see what the US is doing or even mundane news stories. Be able to exchange emails, etc. Anything really that helps them to remember life won't always be the reality of Iraq.

All that being said, there is *nothing* fair about the military. They own you, literally and figuretively.

probably just budget cuts, but this sort of thing happens alot. in this case the Internet traffic might be costing them or maybe there is just too much anti war sentiment and do not want to demoralize them.

yes it is fair. their is too much bogus information coming out of the region. loose lips sink ships. remember that saying? same difference. they need to concentrate on fighting not writing. THEY ARE ONLY RESTRICTING YOUTUBE AND MYSPACE. I THINK THE SOLDIERS HAVE BETTER THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT.

There must be some secret out there that can be said. Something is happening on Iraq that the Government don't want people to know.
